The biggest gripe most reporters had about Schilling was that Schilling said Bonds "admitted" to using steroids, when in actuality, Bonds admitted that he "unknowingly" took steroids thinking they were flaxeed oil.

 

So basically Schilling was saying Bonds got caught red-handed and made up a lie about "unknowingly" taking the roids. Bonds knew he was caught, and he felt that admitting to "unknowingly" taking steroids would keep him in the game of baseball.

 

Bonds has taken what should be a defining moment in baseball history and made it into a circus, and that has just as much to do with his character as it does with his decision to use illegal drugs.

 

I'm glad Schilling said what just about every other player and fan in baseball thinks but is afraid to say.

 

Had Barry learned to be an ambassador for the game of baseball instead of selfish record seeking glory hound, then we wouldn't be talking about any of this. He deserves every criticism he gets, be it from the media or players in the league. It's a shame that an idiot loser is going to take over one of the greatest records in baseball.

What is your opinion on others, who have taken similar paths or had, off the field issues. Should they be held, in the same accord?....just curious.

If you're referring to Mark and/or Sammy, I think their situations are different. IMO, both were pretty good about talking to the media and dealing with fans. Barry chose the "be a jerk" route. I don't think Mark/Sammy will make the HOF, Bonds will and most will agree that he and his record are tainted.

 

I have even more respect for what Hank Aaron did and went through when he was chasing and eventually got the record.

1. I agree on Pete, yes, gambling was/is illegal and he deserved what he got but gambling did not help him get more base hits than anyone to ever play the game. I do believe that the Bonds "juice" has helped him, not with being able to hit the baseball but with the strength to put balls out that normally wouldn't had been. JMO

3. Agree again, Bonds is a class A jerk (same as Schilling), has been a lousy teammate, says he doesn't like the media and press but liked his "Bonds on Bonds" series on espn.

 

4. I also agree on Perry, he handled things well. Everyone knew he was cheating, he got to the point that he didn't have to . They (spitballs.etc.) were already in the batters head and gave him that advantage.
