May 2, 200719 yr Nothing against Georgetown since they are as good as it gets at the NAIA level but I never understood why Jeff didn't land a scholly at the DIAA or DII level. There just aren't that many 6'5" 200 lb strong armed, mobile QB's that come out of high school each year. After reading the scouting report in the links provided it appears that Jeff has many of the same strengths and weaknesses that he had coming out of high school The one difference appears that he has filled out and added 35 lbs of muscle. Looks like things have worked out so far for Jeff and I hope they continue to do so.

This has been reported before, and a lot of people back then threw it out as speculation, but Dale Mueller once told Jeff that, had he gone to Highlands he would have been as highly recruited as Gino and Lorenzon. Everyone threw that out as garbage, but it's true. The reason that Jeff didn't get better offers is the fact that NewCath is a 1A school. Unless you are Dennis Johnson, it's hard to get the respect that you deserve. Part of that comes from having to play 1A competition, and the other half comes from people not paying attention to 1A. Jeff and Eddie Eviston are two perfect examples of kids that got overlooked and would have made solid additions to good DI programs.

I know this isn't the thread topic but Dale also said this same thing to CCH grad Grant Groneck...so take that jargon for what it's worth.
May 3, 200719 yr Anyone have a pick of Jeff Smith recently? Here's a picture of him from when he was at Georgetown. The Bengals have a pic, but its just a head shot.
