April 11, 200719 yr Frankly, had those in the biz just logged on here, they'd have had a clue much earlier. True dat...true dat...
April 11, 200719 yr I'm having a hard time getting used to Thom Brennaman. I think he's trying a little too hard to "out-Marty" Marty. For instance, he made some biting remarks about Ryan Freel last night that were way off base. I think he needs to settle down a little and not try to turn the broadcast booth into a sports page editorial.

I personally like him, it kinda makes me feel that it's a nationally broadcast game every night because I have always heard his voice on MLB video games and other playoff games. I think he is a nice fit with this cast.
April 12, 200719 yr Thom is doing fine. Have to remember, not only is he doing the Reds games now, but this is the Team he grew up watching. It seems like you can get away with a little more, when it's your Team that you are broadcasting. But I do believe he and Welsh went on way to long about the EE bunt situation. Love Brantly as color, but his play by play needs more work. And Welsh? Personally I've had enough.

Frankly, I'm glad there is someone there that actually has an opinion and isn't afraid of being critical of the team when need be, unlike George Grande, who seems to do nothing but praise the team despite their faults and never says anything intelligent about the game. Grande and Welsh are cheerleaders. Thom is a broadcaster. As for Brantley - I miss the "Bad Boy".
April 12, 200719 yr I think he will settle into the groove; but right now, the overly critical (and incorrect, at times) comments aren't doing him any favors.

I thought his comments about Freel being a leadoff hitter and hacking at the second pitch on a 1-0 count were right on.
April 12, 200719 yr I thought his comments about Freel being a leadoff hitter and hacking at the second pitch on a 1-0 count were right on. They were 100% accurate....People love Freel because he plays hard, but he's much better and valuable when he plays as a utility player.

He just has to be more patient at the plate. His job is to get on base. When he gets on, things happen. Narron used him perfectly last night pinch hitting him in basically a leadoff situation. However, Freel didn't approach it like a leadoff situation.

April 12, 200719 yr I love guy, I love his philosphy on the game, and the way he broadcast it. He isn not afraid to put his two cents in. I agree, I really like him and also would love to see Brantley with him. The more of these two and the less on Grande and the "crappy lefthander" the better.

I agree, I really like Freel and think that a player like him that plays as hard as he does should be in the lineup as much as possible. Freel did screw up on that one.
