After falling behind 3-1 to the next batter, the home plate umpire told the catcher to go out to the mound to settle him down a little. before the catcher reached the mound, the base umpire walked up to mound and said, SHUT UP AND PITCH. Everyone could hear him. The pitcher said calmly,

Why are you disrespecting me, I haven't disrespected you? The ump said your out of here, and through him out of the game. I know he shouldn't said anything to the ump, but don't you think the ump provoked him? He never said anything to either ump the whole game, trying to keep his cool, knowing he had to make a good impresion for the scout. Raw deal IMO, any thoughts?

I think the big question here is why did he have to be settled down while pitching a shutout with two outs in the last inning? I'm sure the scout had some questions answered about how he will handle the pressure of pitching in a close game, let alone a 7-0 blowout.

If a pitcher smacks his glove, walks circles around the mound, shakes his head when he doesn't get a call the ump gets the impression he is being "shown up". And to this day I have yet to meet an ump who will tolerate that. My bet. The scout closed the book on that recruit.

Umpires want respect they should demonstrate respect. Players want respect they should demonstrate respect. Sounds to me like it got out of hand and someone needed to be an adult in the situation. I have seen officials provoke situations with their actions just as players and coaches provoke them. Experienced official would have walked and talked to coach to get it under control before it got to that point. Must have been going on the entire game?

When the inning started it was 7-0, they scored 2 runs on a dink hit that the centerfielder dove for, which upset him I'm sure, but he never stomped around or hit his glove he just pitched. The centerfielder came in to pitch and threw 2 strikes to end the game. I know how kids blow up and sulk while pitching, but this wasn't the case this time.

I think the scout left after 5 innings. In other games this pitcher would make gestures and sulk over a call, but not this time.

The best thing a kid can keep in mind is when a scout is looking at a prospect he doesn't want to recommend anyone that he himself would not want to spend four years in the dugout with.

Maybe he will think twice about mouthing off to an ump. No place for that. If the ump was out of place, the coach should deal with it. The player was wrong.

I was at a high school basketball game last year and there was a player with all the talent in the world playing in the game. Some scouts from Morehead were there watching this player dunk left and right during warmups and scoring from all over the court. Unfortunately, the fans of the other school held up a sign that the player didn't like and he retaliated with a middle finger salute. In 5 seconds, the MSU scouts stood up and walked out the door... Sad to see kids ruin their futures like that.
