CovCath 10 NewCath 4

Featured Replies

In a game that wasn't as close as the score reads, CovCath did a pretty good number on NCC today at NewCath Silver Grove Field. CovCath pitchers did a rather good job today starting with Alex Smith who started and was followed by Reis, and Koester. NCC pitchers were wild and walked in a couple of runs, but CovCath played some nice "D" and for most of the game, kept NewCath in check. The only down side was that CovCath didn't get that game ending run to score to close out the game.

Unbelievable weather to sit and watch a high school baseball, and I can't believe we won't be paying for it later in the year. CovCath next game is against GCL Cincinnati McNicholas at McNich on Saturday at noon.

What does NCC have this year?

How did Johnny Pabst do?

Very well, reaching base at least 3 times, I believe.

He went 2 for 2 with 2 walks.

Number? Position?

NCC will be decent this year. Harris and Litmer are a good pair of starting pitchers that will keep them in games. If they get any pitching after that they could be better than decent. Not a lot of pop yet so they will be a hit for average team.

1-1-1 on the year now with a tie versus McNick, a win over Villa, and a loss to CovCath.

Good for Alex Smith. He was cut as a junior but had the drive to come back out for the team as a senior.

Same with Dan Koester, who has also battled chronic back injuries.

NewCath got off to a bad start, walking the lead off hitter on four pitches, from there it just continued. Starter Alex Pangallo couldn't find the strike zone through his inning and a half of work. NewCath finally settled down a little but it was too late as they were playing catchup from the get go.

NewCath had opportunities, but could not capitalize, hit into a double play with bases loaded and one out. Left 2 men on base at least three times. NewCath actually out hit CovCath but they gave CovCath 11 Free Passes, of which, 6 scored for the Colonels.

CovCath, as ussual, did all the little things well, they fielded the ball nicely and got bunts down in situation and played a fundamentally sound ball game. I believe the only slip up was in the 6th when 1st basemen Bleser had a ground ball to him with runners on first and second and I guess had a brain fart for a moment, through it home thinking the bases were loaded. This was the only defensive mistake I can recall. They got a double play to end the inning 2 batters later.

NewCath needs to find the strikezone if they want to compete this year, it is going to start with the pitching. They are going to have to hit for avg. because they do not have a whole lot of power.

I think this game could be alot more interesting if and when NewCath can put it all together. Good Luck to both teams the rest of the year.:thumb:

That wasn't a "mistake." It was a "decoy" play.;)

Actually it was a designed play to confuse the other team into thinking that he had a brain freeze. It worked wonderful as you mentioned, as NCC hit into a DP two batters later....

I think he was just a bit embarrassed by the play, and when you are up by as many as CovCath was at the time, it was a great way for the Colonels to learn that they must keep their head in the game at all times.....

My guess is you won't see that happen again all year.....

Compared to last year, and considering that it is really very early in the season, CovCath is fielding the ball very, very well......

Somebody explain how this Decoy play works? It does not make much sense to be.
