But Holmes didn't need Henderson to really step up. Tilghman had no answer for Hill. Henderson is more known for his defense and high flying ability. He didn't have a stellar game against PT, but he didn't have a bad one by any means. Props to PT...they help him under 15.............

Lincoln didn't play well but not bad enough to leave out! Elliot must have been really impressive!!!

I think South Laurel would have beaten Tighlman. They were a smarter more disciplined basketball team than Tighlman. I would put my money on South.

Henderson was the second high scorer with 12 points and didn't even take that many shots. Once again, Hill did. It's not Arrez fault he didnt get to touch the ball that much because Austin was taking all the shots.

"Those guys seemed to be everywhere - strong defense," Proffitt said. "... They were always in the right place at the right time. You've got to give them props. I'd say that's the best defense we've played all year. That's the best defense we've faced in a while. And we go everywhere. We've played some of the best teams in the country. They were just solid in every aspect of defense."

The thing is Hammonds and Proffit have been hitting tough shots for years. And I will agree with you that they took some bad shots, but show me a team that did not take bad shots in the Sweet 16. But I think as a whole South Laurel plays pretty smart basketball. The role players play their roles. Trey Smith I thought was 1 of the smartest basketball players at the Sweet 16. Also another point is SL is a much better fundamental basketball team and they are a better coached team.

I realize you're dying to give Holmes the credit for everything, but it wasn't just in the Holmes game. Especially in Hammonds' case, it's been obvious in the last two state tournaments.

Holmes had six baskets directly off the offensive glass ... Tilghman had four. No, that wasn't the difference in the game.

 

Holmes won because their defense took Tilghman's two leading scorers out of the game and disrupted the offense. Tilghman missed their first 15 shots of the second half and was 1-17 from the field in the third quarter ... if Holmes' offensive weaponry was the difference, they would've had a lead bigger than 10 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Tilghman cut the lead to six with five minutes left, then held Holmes scoreless over the next three minutes ... but couldn't cut into the lead because the Bulldogs were so tough on the defensive end.

You're entitled to your opinion.

 

South Laurel has three guys that a lot of people on here think are Division I players. I don't see any of Tilghman's guys playing at that level.

 

Holmes beat South Laurel by six points and Tilghman by nine.
