Seeding The Sweet 16?

Featured Replies

I think it's funny no one wants classing but people want seeding of the Sweet 16. Isn't the same arguement after all? How is it any different?

Because seeding just gives you the best match ups at the end and lets the best teams throughout season on the oopposite end of the brackets, kind of a reward for a tuff and successful schedule. Classing just waters down a great thing and I dont think seeding does at all.

IMO - the only fair way to seed is from head to head competition. Since the teams in the state tournament do not face each other head to head - opinion and speculation enter the picture... because of this I am against seeding the state tournament.

Seeding gives the perceived better teams the advantage of playing the perceived weaker teams in the first and second round. These perceptions would be deciced in a board room and the larger schools, traditional powers and politically connected schools would be helped at the expense of the smaller, non connected newcomers. So, basically we would be making our own BCS and stacking the odds against the Cinderella teams.

The haves don't need any more advavntages they already have better facilities, booster clubs, more kids to chose from, larger coaching staffs, AAU teams, larger areas to draw from, etc.

Defenz. That is not a crazy idea. That is how we did it in my home state and then the top four teams played at the championship site. That way you can take four teams from the east say at Bowling green and four teams in Lville, and so on and so on. So it was like the Final Four at Rupp. But, we were classified so we had 16 teams at say Rupp (four from each class). Now that I think about it, the state had to make a ton more in revenue doinng it that way. Call me crazy.
