NKY Coach's/POY

Featured Replies

Someone can help me on this one. The banquet was today at Triple Crown in Union, KY.

These were voted on by the coachs. Conference players and coaches of the year.

Division I:

POY - Nicole Dickman - NDA

COY - Jeff Stowers - SK

Div. II:

POY - Shannon Klei - NCC

COY - Christie McDonald - NCC

Cammie Geiman - Brossart

Div. III:

POY - Codie Gerwe - Villa

Cassie Wofford - Ludlow

COY - Aaron Stamm - Ludlow

I believe there were 10 players total for each conference team.

Spring Schneider of Scott won the Loyce Meadows scholarship for being an outstanding player on and off the court.:thumb:

Darpel of NDA takes her team to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in 20 years, gives birth to a son the day after winning the 35th District (Friday), then coaches her team to a huge victory over last years Ninth Region Champion and biggest rival Boone County on Monday. Yes I know she had the talent, but gee, give me a break. Darpel's team beat SK and Stowers by 33 points and if she had chosen, it could have been worse....

So if you have the talent, work it into one of the top teams in the Commonwealth, lose to only one team in the area in OT, win the 9th Region, have your program win the Frosh and JV titles all in the same year, and you don't win the COY? WOW.....I just wonder what more she needed to accomplish this season.....to win the award.....

Should have went for twins.;)

When you're the prohibitive favorite, its hard to get votes for COY. Coach Stowers took a very young team and had lots of success. That's the situation that usually gets COY votes.

He seemed very shocked that he received the award today.

I agree w/this but then how did Stamm win in DIII? He had the best talent and was suppose to do what he did. Beechwood won 3 games this yr. That was an accomplishment. That is more wins than in the last 2 yrs.

I think Boone was the overwhelming favorite in pre-season.

You think? Boone was the overwhelming favorite until about the midway point of the season. I am the most biased person on this board but Darpel is my COY regardless of the votes. Not that I would take anything away from Mr. Stowers but 28 and 4 with the NDA schedule is pretty dang impressive.

Go Pandas!

Welovethisgame, was correct, Boone was the heavy favorite and rightfully so, at the start of the season, as NDA will be next year....or at least until they get beat by some team from within Northern Kentucky.....

I guess by your example above, Dickman, who had to be the prohibitive favorite to win the POY award this season, shouldn't have won it because she did so well on the floor? confused.gif Sorry, just doesn't make sense to me...

This was voted on before districst or regionals was played. I think that's why Darpel didn't get it.

And at what point in time before during or after Regionals did she not deserve the award? Seems petty to me. She has been rock solid from the first tip in November.

Question? Who won this award last year? Over the last couple of years?

IMO, the award is meaningless when it is dealt from the bottom of the deck. So in response to your question.........who cares.

I think the voting came right after SK knocked off Boone, so that might have had something to do with it. Once again, you can never really measure this because the two teams are in seperate regions.

Other players receiving awards(sorry if I miss people)

D1 - Jayce Bradley - Boone

Jackie Hicks - Boone

Carmen Firth - Dixie

Katie Tierney - NDA

Chelsea Tolliver - SK

Allison Harmeling - Ryle

Christina Weaver - Holmes

Kat O'Neill - Conner

Casey Jackson - NDA

DII:

Whitney Cundiff - NCC

Hillary Butcsh - Brossart

Kaitlin Steffen - Brossart

Katie Allen - Highlands

Becca Towles - Highlands

Kristin Bibbins - Holy Cross

Brooke Lantry - Holy Cross

Stephanie Niemer - St. Henry

Tabitha Lockard - Lloyd

DIII:

Mindy Merrit - Bellevue

Mallory Reynolds - Bellevue

Lauren Budde - Calvary

Ashley Dougherty - Ludlow

Lucy Van Melle - Villa

Stephanie Brennan - Beechwood

Lauren Hergett - Walton Verona

McKenzie Garcia - Walton

once again, I think this is close, and I hope I haven't left anyone off.

The same line of thinking never applies to POY. This is nothing new. Look at the SEC. Billy D had a great run until late but AK wins COY due to the surprise factor.
