Simon Kenton district championship under investigation?

Featured Replies

N KY sources say simon kenton is under investigation by KHSAA for playing players who were not in the official scorer's book in the championship game of the 32nd district. I heard there were 15 players in the official scorer's book but 17 played in the game. Has anyone else heard about this?

Welcome to the site, southmouth1.

I believe that there is some discussion on another thread about the number of players allowed and the number that SK had. A few points to make:

#1: The officials are in charge of counting the number of players on the court and that this does not go over the maximum allowed.

#2: Any official bookkeeper (and you would think that you would have a very knowledgeable one for your district tournamnet) knows that if a player is not in the book that when he checks in, you have the clockkeeper sound the horn immediately to notify the officials immediately. As the official scorer, you are an official of the game.

#3: Since this game was played at home, would it have been tough, as the bookkeeper, to do this to your own team? Yes, but you do it anyway, assuming that you do know the rules.

I don't know if there is anything that can be done about it now. I certainly don't think that they will take SK's win away and it obviously will not affect their next game.

Bottom line - SK's coach shouldn't have done it, the officials and bookkeeper should have caught it. Now it is over with.

Let's be careful with Rule #4 and Rule #6, on this thread. You are alluding, you heard there were more than 15 playing and you've indicated, a KHSAA investigation is underway.

Do you have any Links, or confirmation to this investigation, southmouth1?

Sorry Strike 3. My source was a guy at the BP in Florence who saw my t-shirt and asked if I had heard about SK being under investigation. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard about this. I had already heard about SK supposedly playing too many players but he added the investigation part. I did not mean to break any rules, but this was a topic I have been hearing a lot about and wondered if there was any truth to it. Lets hope there isn't.

SK played 16, Coach Steiner knew that it was going to be called a technical foul but went ahead and rewarded his player who had been working hard all year by getting him in the district championship game. I believe SK or Steiner will be fined for their actions. I agree with what the coach did but rules are rules.

I'm new to this but isn't playing an inelligible player an automatic loss such as when Highlands football team had to forfeit regular season games because of a transfer from Cov Cath?

How many did they reward in the first game vs. Williamstown. Rules are rules and this one should be investigated

I would say that is a little different.

This is similar to a player wearing a number different than what is in the scorebook.

Ineligible is ineligible, what I want to know is why you would even risk doing this in the first place. Let's hope for SK's kids that nothing comes from this.

I think from reports I have they knew and were willing to accept the techinicals and go forward. Does this mean they are above rules?

Whats the worst that could come from this?

Still curious if they played the correct amount in the first round

A team may submit an unlimited number of players, on the KHSAA Eligibility sheet but only dress in uniform, only 15 each game. The Tournament Manager, may limit seating on the Bench.
