Thoughts from the game...Nic Simpson: be glad it's not the regional and you were a Senior. (Chris Webber of Michigan???). Not the legacy you would want to leave. ...HHS: Guard play was poor. Too much standing around and confusion for this late in the year. WAAAY too much one on one "armory ball". Birds didn't score in the 3rd quarter until about a minute and change left, and still were in the ball game???....should have forced the ball into Wise/Stein early and OFTEN. Kiernan would not have been around for the 4th quarter if they would've....for my money, Eaton and Hurtt were the best fundamental rebounders on the floor. Box out, "soar like an eagle, snatch like a lion, shake like a dog" (kenny shields-ism)...pushing the ball up the floor more often would help the offense greatly. Birds don't "match-up" talent with too many teams at this stage of the season. NCC: Congratulations! Hard fought and well earned victory. Kiernan is a Big East Beast to be sure...but he gets some GREAT support on the offensive boards (IMO, this was the difference in the game.)...Giesler and Huseman get the "supporting player(s)" oscar tonite...Michael Hasson did a superb job bothering Simpson on D (must've got that ability from his mother's side!!)...2 minute streak of 3's in the beginning of the 3rd quarter kept NCC in the game...NCC's offensive sets produced alot of uncontested layups or wide open looks. Good coaching + good execution. Hope BOTH teams get a favorable draw for the regional!

 

Chappie...if a player is lying already out of bounds and the ball rolls across the end line to them...how is it out of bounds on that player??? Typical 9th region officiating job. Inconsistent both ways...which is fine, I guess...but a player can't adjust when one guy calls "ticky-tacky" and the other allows "muggings" and the third just runs to stay in shape. Robbie Allen, please come back!!!

I was a bit surprised the officials assigned to tonights game were as tolerant as they were. They needed to take better control early and decide whether they were going to call it tight, or let them play. The worst thing IMO that can happen in a game with officiating in they all get on a different page, and tonight, all three were. This year's points of emphasis were ignored (coaches box, trash talk, etc.) Coaches went where they wanted, several players were heard trash talking (with profanity) directly in front of an official and he didn't even address it....at least he should have talked to the perpetrator, but he ignored it.....bout like he ignored most of the game....and Simpson deserved an oscar, as he hit the floor on every other shot trying to draw a foul. He simply took himself out of rebounding and defensive position.

Do the officials not get together before the game and know who they are officiating? You would think that they would know the physicality of Highlands/NCC matchup as well as the rivalry.

 

Let me guess, Simpson shot all of his balls on the way down and then fell to the floor? If he shoots on the way up I would guess his stability coming down is better and he offers more support on the offensive boards. Just a guess.

Bingo. Flops on every shot, and then complains to the refs when no foul is called. It only hurt Highlands defensively a couple of times against NCC because NCC wasn't in a hurry to push the ball up the floor, but against a team that likes to run flopping leads to a lot of easy baskets the other way.
