Russell 68 Lewis Co. 56 63rd Final

Featured Replies

Congrats to the Russell players and staff for focusing and getting the job done in a very difficult week. Good Luck to both Russell and Lewis Co. as they both go off to Morehead St. next week to represent the 63rd District. IMO the 63rd is probably one of the most competitive districts in the State. Russell lost the district finals last season and went to Rupp. Be careful 16th Region, 2 dangerous teams in the tourney!

Congrats to the Russell Red Devils on the 63rd District title.

Russell played great first half going 6/6 from three the 1st quarter. Ross turner stepped up and hit two 3's to get them started and they jus kept goin. Russell had a 28-11 lead( at end of first ) which was a dagger to lewis. Lewis made nothing the first quarter and started to heat up later, lewis cut it to 8 in the third but gill stepped up with some dunks and that gottem fired up. good luck and regions to both.

Gritty win for Russell against a "never say die" Lewis County bunch. Blair played at about 50% and was having trouble moving and cutting but was still effective. Gill played his best offensive game of the season (20 or so?) with 3 monster dunks and couple of other alley oops. After missing almost 3 weeks, he's still a step or two off on defense and rebounding but if he plays like this in the Region and Blair gets healthy, Russell can definitely compete. Turner had an strong first half on the boards and him and Arob didn't miss a three in the first quarter.

Russell fans were out in full force and made a difference in this game. All tournament team was T Wright-Greenup, Sparks-Raceland, Ruggels-Lewis, and Gill, Blair, Turner, Robinson, and VanHoose for Russell.

Also, I forgot to wish Lewis good luck in the regional next week, you deserve to be there.:thumb:

Congrats to Russell. Coach Dodd has done a great job with his team. Best of luck in region.:thumb:

Surely more than one from Lewis Co. made the All Tourney Team???

You're right, Lewis Co had two on the All Tourney team. Ruggles and #10 (I believe).

The remainder of "Doddy's Diaper Dandies" stepped up in this game.

It remains to be seen what they will do against the elite teams in the region without Vanhoose.:fire:

I am sticking with Russell to pull it off.:thumb:

My pre-season picks still look good. All are going to Morehead.:walk:

1. Russell

2. Elliott Co

2. Ashland

4. Rowan Co

Congratulations to Russell on a great win. This team has overcome a lot of adversity and seems to always find a way to win. This speaks highly of the attitudes of the kids and their coaching staff.

Good luck in the Regional tourney.

I know he the POY in the region, but how did Vanhoose make alltourney, playing only 12-15 minutes?

Marty Ruggles and Frankie Witten made all tourney team for Lewis.

He did average almost a point per minute. In all likelyhood he would have been on the team anyway had the injury not happened and my guess was he was voted on to acknowledge what a great career he had.
