February 23, 200719 yr Exactly....Even the high scoring teams like NCarolina and Florida have few and far between 100 pt outings, Carolina has had 7 or 8 i think this year
February 23, 200719 yr One thing I've learned over the years is that you manipulate numbers to say what you want them to. For the sake of arguement, let's break down some more numbers. In games decided by five points or less, Rick Pitino was 21-23 while at UK. Tubby Smith is 45-34. Does that make Tubby a better late game coach than Pitino? Does it mean too many teams are playing UK closer than they should? I think you can make arguements for both, when looking at JUST the numbers. Here's a numer 0 that's how many Final Fours, since 1998, that UK has been to the Final Four.... We should ask Fletch to do the research...but I would like to see how many weeks UK was unranked from 1992 - 1998, and then look at how many weeks they've been unranked in the last 3 seasons.... :sssh:
February 23, 200719 yr I would like to see how many weeks UK was unranked from 1992 - 1998, and then look at how many weeks they've been unranked in the last 3 seasons.... :sssh:That's a good point. But does that mean UK isn't as good as they've been or does that mean the rest of college basketball has gotten better? You can spin it either way, just like the others.
February 23, 200719 yr Rick Pitino 1991-92: Never unranked; lowest ranking #19 1992-93: Never unranked; lowest ranking #5 1993-94: Never unranked; lowest ranking #11 1994-95: Never unranked; lowest ranking #8 1995-96: Never unranked; lowest ranking #5 1996-97: Never unranked; lowest ranking #8 Tubby Smith 1997-98: Never unranked; low #9, high #4 1998-99: Never unranked; low #18, high #3 1999-00: 2 weeks unranked; highest ranking #11 2000-01: 11 weeks unranked; highest ranking #9 2001-02: Never unranked; low #16, high #4 2002-03: Never unranked; low #20, high #1 2003-04: Never unranked; low #10, high #2 2004-05: Never unranked; low #10, high #3 2005-06: 10 weeks unranked; high #7
February 23, 200719 yr That's a good point. But does that mean UK isn't as good as they've been or does that mean the rest of college basketball has gotten better? You can spin it either way, just like the others. You know this, but the biggest complaint Kentucky fans have it about style. This is a program born and bred on fast-paced basketball, from Adolph Rupp to Rick Pitino. Joe Hall and Eddie Sutton periodically had it, just like Tubby Smith, but not consistently. That's why they don't rate as high as Rupp/Pitino. This doesn't mean Tubby Smith can't coach; just that change is necessary because this basketball program isn't interesting to watch.
February 23, 200719 yr Carolina has had 7 or 8 i think this year You are correct...they have 7, Florida has 1 vs Western Ky...4 of NCs was vs Sacret Heart, Gardner Webb, Florida Atlantic, Penn...I'll give them credit for the Tennessee, Wake Forest and Miami games... The point is 100 pt games are not very easy to come by...If Florida only has 1, that should tell you something...
