February 22, 200719 yr Absolutely agree with you. We enjoy freedoms unlike any in the world. We are able to freely and openly worship in about 99% of the country. However, you're right that if the roles were switched, it would be a much bigger story — because it would be viewed as a Christian oppressing a minority (despite the fact that this incident appears to simply be a personal disagreement and should be viewed as such).

Let's not go acting like they are somehow being oppressed. Yeah, everybody knows there's way too many Christians out there... we could have Muslim cabbies bump off a couple a day in every big city across the country and barely scratch the surface. 10 to 1 some ACLU toady pops up to defend this creep for merely expressing his First Amendment rights.

February 23, 200719 yr First, if it came from Fox News or the Washington Times it isn't credible, but I heard the story somewhere ( I think NBC, but I'm not sure). Second, the news media hypes a story because they think people will want to hear about it. The ANS story gets big play because they think we will tune in. We don't tune in because they gave it big play. I get tired of the big persecution complex from Christians. I am a Christian and the only time I feel persecuted, the source is other Christians that seem to feel that only their brand of Christianity is acceptable.

I think an incident like lbbc describes would get buried under the dung heap that is the Anna Nicole Story, just like everything else that is real news. Celebrity worship in this country far exceeds that of ANY religion. The media knows this and feeds the masses what they want. Down here, coverage of the trial of John Couey, who raped and murdered 9 yr old Jessica Lunsford, follows the Anna circus and a story about the City Manager of Largo declaring himself a she and changing his/her name from Steve to Susan. Those 2 stories dominate local talk shows as well.

I saw stories speculaing on it for a couple of days in advance of the announcement and a lengthy story the day of the announcement. They included how proud the Queen and Prince Charles are.

February 25, 200719 yr I don't believe that Christians are being directly persecuted. But, religion and politics are becoming, or have become, increasingly intertwined. Many people are beginning to look at Christian and Conservative as two synonymous titles. When a political issue is debated religion is a growing into a larger part of that debate. For instance, a columnist may write a scathing diatribe on a particular political ideology for their stance on some issue. Most will either agree or disagree and not get particularly worked up over it. Now this same diatribe may use this synonymous Christian/Conservative idea and offend a lot of people who don't look at it that way. I'm not sure if that made sense, but it is just something I was thinking about. As far as this article is concerned...If it were reversed I'm sure it would be sensationalized a bit more as controversy sells, but it is hardly front page news.

ALL of the media is slanted, most of it to the left. Disagree. I must defend NPR. For just one example, their coverage of Reagan's death, funeral, etc., was nothing short of reverent. I know I had a hard time swallowing it, wondering why I never saw a black person on line waiting to view his body in state.
