Male/Trinity 2002 where are they now?

Featured Replies

Didn't he transfer there from another school? I could have sworn he started out at a bigger college.

Signed with West Georgia out of high school.

Barclay was the starting running back at Wake Forest a couple of years ago.

Bush is obviously going pro.

Shmutte was at UK.

I'm not sure if Patton went anywhere or not.

Obviously Brohm is at Louisville.

Barclay didn't play in the 2002 game. He graduated after the 2001 season. Sergio Spencer played in the 2002 game and is playing for Louisville on special teams (kick return and kickoff coverage).

Todd Flannery is the starting placekicker for U of L (kickoffs, not FG attempts)

So Barclay was in Montrelle Jone's class? Man that is an AMAZING slew of talent they had! Jones/Barclays team would have to be right at the top of most talented teams ever along with Highlands back in the late 90's.

Jones was senior on the 2000 team. Barclay was a senior on the 2001 team.

The 2000 team was an awesome collection of eventual D1 talent. In addition to Jones and Barclay, Michael Bush was a starter, as was Marcus Green (future Ohio State OL), Matt Sanders (LB, U of L), Sergio Spencer (RB, U of L), Todd Flannery (K, U of L), and Casey Shumate (C, UK).

This awesome collection of talent is in keeping with the history of Male football. There is a recent thread titled "Make up your high school's greatest football team ever" that shows down through the years Male has had as good, if not better football talent than any school in Kentucky. If there is ever a thread titled "The greatest collection of talent ever on one football team in Kentucky high school football" this group may be at the top.

It surprised me when Tayshaun McBroom signed with West Georgia out of college. Watching him in high school, I thought that he would be a high D1 prospect (UK or UL at least). Was anyone else surprised?

I thought the same thing. The kid was amazing. I am wondering if his height was a problem for most schools.

Green played D-line for the Buckeyes.

His height was a major issue...and his recorded 40 time was never a world beating kind...BUT his game speed was unreal...surpassed only by his absolute flawless precision route running....another thing that was holding him back, was making the score on his test...but he got'er done.

Three of my favorite Tay plays:

1. The tunnel screen he took on the short side of the field at Dunbar and went about 70 yards for a score;

2. When he lined up at tailback, with DeQueese at fullback, against Boone County, I think I saw urine on some of the defenders pants. He went untouched up the middle for about a 25 yard td;

3. Male 2002 man to man by Dale Baughman or Sergio Spencer initially, Tay goes deep. Next series they put the other guy on it, Tay goes about 80 yards into the end zone were I was sitting. Much like Willie Brown from the Raiders in the 1977 Super Bowl.

Note to you buddy. Don't remind me of Number 1. I was coaching in that game. The guys he outran on that play were our best players. He left everyone by like 20 yds. Other than Montrell Jones, Antonio Bryant, and another (hint: check the user name), I thought he was the best I've seen even in high school. Thats some on-field speed any D-1 school could've used.

I know it sounds weird...I certainly loved his deep td's...but his bubble screens and him simply running a hitch route, were so fun to watch.

I'm pretty sure Tay was #2, but nevertheless he was fun to watch. He really came on late his junior year and I remember telling some regulars that he would have a monster senior year.

Your dead on about his opponents and their ability. It wasn't like he was out running mountain, smashmouth teams. He was outrunning some of the best athletes in the state. He is one of my favorites.

I always liked when he lined up in the backfield in the I. This was done a number of times late in his senior year. Whenever you saw him back there you knew he was getting the ball and something fun was fixin' to happen.
