The #1 ranked 2A Beechwood Tigers go on the road to Bracken County for their last district game of the regular season. The Tigers remain undefeated while the Polar Bears are now 2-6. This looks like another district mismatch for the Tigers. The Polar Bears lost some outstanding seniors last year and are in rebuilding mode.

What should we be watching for in this game?

Just another blow out…. Sad the Tigers have to play these district games.

Agree and ultimately this is a KHSAA issue but they don't seem to care about resolving it anytime soon.

I am coming around on the elimination of forced district games in favor of a rankings for the playoffs, but I have a HUGE fear of what rankings system will be used to set the playoffs. If you say current districts versus KHSAA RPI, I lean towards keeping district games.

Massey, HSRatings.com, or maybe a beefed up version of the TP94 Power Ratings.

VoR, we can build it. We have the technology.

That's what drives me nuts. I do think RPI has been somewhat good in giving us more competitive title games than we had pre-RPI before BUT it has some big flaws that need to corrected, fixed, altered, etc. OR we scrap RPI and go with a system that has already been shown it can work better. The lack of movement to do that by KHSAA has been disappointing to say the least. I think any of us in our respective jobs look at what we are doing and always look to do better/improve. Asking the same of our state's athletic leadership shouldn't be too much!

Definitely it can be done. But can KHSAA do it? History and current experience clearly says no.

Maybe I am off base, but the KHSAA uses the RPI only in football for home field locations in later rounds. Thinking (dangerous if you’re uninformed) that for all other sports it is just for window dressing. If that indeed is the case, perhaps KHSAA could consider a better model for football first and once that is tweaked and proven than evaluate nibbling into other sports. Just hard to swallow a whole elephant…got to take one bite at a time.

Agreed that the KHSAA needs to do away from districts, as no one benefits from these games. As take Beechwood for example, it really wouldn't matter what district they in for 2A. Besides for like maybe 5 teams in the state in 2A, Beechwood would running clock everyone else by the 3rd quarter at the latest. So unless you put one of those other top 5 teams in the same district as them, then the same thing would be said no matter what district they are in.

For anyone going I would suggest 8:30 reservations at the Beehive in Augusta will work fabulously. RC by end of 1st qtr and 15 minute drive down 19 to the restaurant. You will love the atmosphere, view from the deck, and the food.
