Class 2A District 4 play begins this week when the Danville Admirals (4-0) head to Washington County (1-3). Last week the Admirals avenged a loss last season to Lincoln County, winning 48-21. Trinden Sellers was a big reason for the Admirals success, scoring three times and also getting a key reception in the fourth quarter on a third and long that set up another Admiral score and let them pull away from Lincoln late. Admiral quarterback Dillon Cruver went 12-of-14 from the air, throwing for three scores. Talented running back Jayvian Meaux added three touchdowns of his in the game. But the Admirals weakness continues to be defense as teams have run all over them but also got most of what they have wanted through the air. Through four games the Admirals have been greatly helped by a quick strike offense that demoralizes the opposition but the defense needs to make strides to help the team put games away earlier.

The Commanders of Washington County earned their first win of the year last week against Western Hills 33-12. Quarterback Thomas Roution went 5-for-10 for 90 yards and one touchdown and five different Commander players found the end zone, led by running back Rakim Porter, who ran for 104 yards on seven carries and scored two touchdowns.

Last year Danville hosted Washington and won a narrow 21-12 victory. What happens this year?

I read somewhere that Danville has given up over 1000 rushing yards the last 3 games. Danville will win but it's almost certain the Washington County RBs will run wild on Danville's defense. How is Danville's defense this bad and they returned 7 starters from last year?

Danville wins convincingly, but I agree with @DanvilleFan the defense must get better. It is most certainly their Achilles heal.

Opening notes per Admirals radio team:

Mylan Peters, a sophomore wide receiver, out for Danville due to concussion protocol.

Lineman Jamaree Johnson, who is a senior, is out for the season with an ACL injury suffered in the final minutes of last week's game.

Braiden Ford, a sophomore tight end and linebacker, who was out last week with a groin injury, is playing.

Danville is 13-0 all-time against Washington County.

Danville kicks off to begin the game. Washington takes the return about 15 yards to their own 40 yard line.

Run goes for 5 yards up the middle on the first play of the game. Fullback run on 2nd down goes for a mere yard. 3rd & 4 sees Washington do a pitch to the outside and they advance into Danville territory to the Ads 40.

Commanders start their next play with a pass into the flat and it goes for 3 yards. That is followed by a fullback dive up the middle for two yards. It brings up a second third down on the drive that needs to go 5 yards. Commanders run to the right and get just enough for a first down to move the chains again. Ball now at the Ads 30.

Commanders keep it on the ground, running to the outside but the Admirals keep it contained and only give up 2 yards.

2nd & 8 (8;04 to play) sees a pitch to the left and it goes for 4 yards.

3rd and 4 is another run but the Commanders are a yard shy.

The Commanders decide to go for it on 4th & 1. Ads load the box but the Commanders still get it on a QB keeper that just goes up the middle.

Ball is now at the Ads 16. On first down, Commanders take the edge on the ground and go for a first down, advancing 11 yards to the Ads 5.

5:20 to play in the first quarter as the Commanders are now in a goalline set of downs.

1st and goal is another run that ends up just short of the end zone where the nose of the ball is close to the goal line. The ball comes out but it is said to have come out after the runner was down.

2nd and goal is a QB tush push-like move and the Commanders draw first blood to get on the board. Ads defense still struggling as they were getting pushed around on the drive.

Washington's extra point try misses.

Washington's kickoff goes out of bounds. Steve Stonebreaker goes against type by not ordering a rekick so the Admirals will start the game on offense on their own 40.

Jayvian Meaux (sophomore) runs for 5 yards on a pitch play on first down.

Meaux takes a second handoff up the middle but cannot spin for a first down. Ads just gain two yards.

3rd & 3 results in Meaux barely getting the first down after running from the shotgun position.

Ads hand it to Meaux for the fourth play in the game and that goes for four yards.

On 2nd down there is another run by Meaux that goes for a first down, moving the ball to the Washington 35.

Washington calls their first timeout of the half after that.

Washington County leads 6-0 but the Ads have the ball in their territory with 1:54 left in the first quarter
