Oldham County 38 DeSales 10

Oldham County Colonels (6-5 in 2025) at DeSales (6-6 in 2025)

Friday, 8/21/26 7:30 pm kickoff

Inexperience vs experience.

Two of the more highly successful coaches (Jamie Reed at Oldham and Mike Jackson at DeSales) square off with very different squads on Friday.

Oldham County has just 3 returning starters on offense and three on defense.....the Colts return 9 starters on offense and 10 on defense.....

Oldham has a lot of question marks early, but returns two stellar players on D, in Junior MLB Jess Officer, who tallied 100 tackles in 2025 and senior OLB Lincoln Weaver, who was #2 in 6A in 2025 with 9.5 sacks and #1 in 6A in 2025 with 5 forced fumbles. The Colonels have switched to a 3-stack defensive look from last year's 4 man front, and will look to put more pressure on the offenses they face, sometimes with a 3-3 look, and, more often, with a 3-5 formation.

How Oldham handles the scheme switch will likely tell the tale in terms of wins and losses in the early going.

At QB, Javy Tucker looks to lead the way, and Dixon Mount - the backup QB - looks to be a key player at one of the wingback positions. Cayenne Redmon looks to be the new go-to guy in the receiving game. Redmon, who has great speed, also has the team's "best hands" and is also skilled at running his routes.

It's a lot of new faces on offense, though. The Colonels graduated Derek Dees, a three year starter at QB. Besides losing their top passer to graduation, they also lost their top two running backs (who combined for over 1,000 yards rushing) and their top receiver.

DeSales is looking to improve with a group that started slow in 2025, but finished fast, winning 4 of their last 6 games, including one playoff contest.

Mike Jackson, who coached at Oldham County in the late 90s and early 2000s, winning two 4A Coach of the Year awards while in Buckner, will be watching the Offensive Line in particular, as that was the Colt's weakness in 2025. Despite the fact DeSales has 19 starters returning, the Colts lost some critical contributors at QB and WR, where they lost a top-15 passer and a top-15 wide receiver.

Defensively, Jackson is hoping to better adjust to teams that show option looks; a problem in 2025. Toward that end, Jackson thinks this team will be solid in the box, but unfortunately, the Colts' scrimmage opponents mostly threw the ball, meaning the defensive front remains a bit of a question mark heading into Friday's matchup.

KEYS: In Week 1, everything is key, but, the following will be areas of concern:

  • Oldham County

    • Finding the correct places to be in the new defense

    • Ability to exert pressure on DeSales' offensive scheme

    • Efficient pass game to help free up the run

  • DeSales

    • Ability to maintain / grind out long drives

    • Assignment defense against Oldham rushing attack

    • Ability of new QB not to get too excited and try to do too much

As of this time, we expect the game will be broadcast on the Pegasus Sports Network. We are awaiting final approvals from DeSales. Tune in on www.psnky.com at 7 pm (half hour before kickoff) for the SkyWorks Pregame Show. Mike Montgomery will have the play-by-play and Jamie Brown the color commentary. Be sure to tune in an see the NEW, IMPROVED production as Pegasus debuts a 4-camera setup!

The early word from DeSales is that Pegasus will not be able to broadcast. :-(

Not DeSales' fault. I'll leave it at that. AD was very apologetic about the situation. Pegasus has a very good relationship with the Colts.

Oldham Stops DeSales on a 4th 3 and the drives down and scores from the 7 yards TD run by #12 Tuckers. 3:20 to go in 1st QT OC 7 DeSales 0.

It's hard to go against all of that returning experience for DeSales in a Week 1 game.

Oldham's linebacker duo of Officer and Weaver is one of the state's very best, but they can't do it all themselves.

Give me the Colts by two scores.

DeSales had already agreed for Glicod to livestream the game.

DeSales fumbled and recovered by Oldham County.

In the first quarter 7 - 0 Oldham he can get those County

Third down and Long Oldham County.
