SSF's 12th Region Round-Up Poll Feb. 12-17

Featured Replies

1. Boyle County (12-9, 9-3)

The Rebels are on a run just like they ended last year that landed them in Rupp. Winners of 8 straight, their schedule isn't easier from here. They stand at a solid 9-3 in an even region and have a chance to roll right into Rupp.

2. McCreary Central (18-6, 8-4)

Coach Rob Jones' Raiders are hitting their stride at the right time of the year. They've won 7 straight and are 14-2 in their last 16. McCreary Central could very well end the season on a 10-game winning streak, as they should be favored or close to it in every game. Jones got his 100th career win at Whitley County Friday and will probably continue to add to it throughout the year. The Raiders face the Wayne County Cardinals in the first round of the district.

3. West Jessamine (15-7, 9-3)

Hammonds' Colts are on their way to another successful season, this time, under a new coach. They were on a seven-game winning streak, before getting that snapped at Scott County - which wasn't hard to do. West Jessamine's schedule isn't too easy to end the year, but they should get a few more wins out of it.

4. Lincoln County (16-8, 11-2)

The Patriots have played the toughest out-of-region schedule this year, and their record shows it. They'll probably end the regular season on a six-game winning streak, but recent losses to Boyle and McCreary have dropped them down the ®ound-Up.

5. East Jessamine (12-11, 7-4)

The Jags were seconds away from winning at the other Jessamine, but a floater by Fain of West added another to a double-digit loss column. They've had some suprising losses this year, but have the talent to win it in the 12th. If they play their ball, they'll come out of the year with an above .500 record.

- The best of the rest -

6. Southwestern (13-7, 9-5)

7. Pulaski County (16-8, 5-6)

8. Mercer County (12-10, 2-7)

9. Garrard County (11-11, 4-5)

10. Somerset (11-12, 9-5)

NOTE:

This doesn't mean that Garrard can beat Somerset, or that Lincoln can beat Mercer County. This is based on current performance.

Somerset's record does not reflect the way they are capable of playing. They demolished SW at home, lost to SW on a last second heave and split the regular season games with PC. We will see where they stand as far as the regions best when MC comes to town.

Then they need to play like they're capable of playing. A loss at home to the worst team in the region with Rockcastle.. At home against Pulaski. The wins they have are far, far, far from impressive.

They do seem to play down to their competition at times but at other times they play up to the level of the competition and play good ball.

When they start playing good ball, they'll move up the rankings.

I don't think Garrard belongs anywhere near this list. They've lost 4 of 5 and the only region teams they have beat are Monticello, Burgin and Danville.

Here's my top 10 with their record against the Region's top 10

1 Boyle Co 4-3

2 Lincoln Co 7-2

3 West Jessamine 6-3

4 McCreary Co. 5-4

5 Southwestern 6-4

6 Pulaski Co 1-6

7 Somerset 2-4

8 East Jessamine 5-4

9 Mercer Co 1-6

10 Wayne Co 3-4

My rankings are based on who I think would win if they played tonight. Casey Co would be very close if not tied for #10 and they are the only team not listed who I think would have a good chance of beating a team on the list.

Obviously you didn't do to much homework on this one. If you look the only teams that have beat them in the region are YOUR #1 Boyle, YOUR #2 Lincoln and YOUR #4 McCreary. Yeah your right... Oh wait a second.... Haven't those guys beat OTHER 12th region teams??

That's not an entirely fair statement, though, UnderPar. Garrard's only non-district region games came against Monticello, Burgin and McCreary Central. They haven't played any of the upper-echelon teams in the region, which is perhaps good for the record, but not so good when trying to determine how good a team is.

Against the previous ranking of 1-Boyle, 2-Lincoln and 4-McCreary, Garrard has a combined record of 0-5. The average margin of defeat in those games is 19.8 points (average 75.4-55.6 loss) and the closest margin in those games was a twelve point loss at Lincoln County. I think a #9 rank in the region would be very acceptable right now; not many people would have Garrard that high.

Did I say anything about how high they were ranked? I don't think I did. I think it had to do with the comment about not belonging anywhere near that list.

Easy now. I was combining the post of SSF and region12hoops. You commented on the statement that Garrard didn't belong anywhere near the list. You obviously disagreed and based it on the fact that the losses were to top level teams in the region. I simply stated that the previous post by the two earlier posters were pretty accurate.

I placed Garrard there because no one else in the region is doing anything... Wayne probably is the better team, but they don't play consistent.

They do seem to play down to their competition at times but at other times they play up to the level of the competition and play good ball.

Play down to their competition? Are you implying they are better than all of the teams they have lost too?

Pretty sure thats not what he means.. I think he may be talking about the Rockastle game at home that they lost early in the year..

1. Boyle

1. Lincoln

1. Pulaski

1. East

1. Southwestern

1. Somerset

1. McCreary

1. West

These will be the 8 teams in the region tournament. This is how I would rank them because any one of these teams can win it.

I would agree with the 8 teams selected. Each team listed could beat the others on a given night. The ones I see with a good chance of winning the region however are Boyle, Lincoln, Pulaski, Somerset, and West J. in no particular order, with the most likely winner being Lincoln.
