I'd think the "classification" folks would be all over this.

There were 67 district games won by 30+ and no one is asking why those games were played; or why those teams are in the post season; or whether the losing team players even wanted to play; yada, yada, yada ...

Now you're comparing Girls Basketball to Football? Come on man... ?

I will give you one example of why this is from a couple teams I know about.

Simon Kenton 9-12 enrollment is 1,866

Williamstown 9-12 enrollment is 181

It is just a numbers thing, both teams understand that.

Simon could have won by 80 or more if they wanted, but they have always been gracious in how they do it. Can't say that about everyone.

Would a classification system help? I don't know, but I do know that the All "A" Regional and State tournaments are a blast to watch.

It isn't the sport. Fairness and opportunity are the comparison points.

Football has far fewer games and people want to eliminate games. Once in a lifetime experiences in a playoff game being denied high schoolers because of a long drive to a game, a lopsided matchup, it might be raining, etc. etc. etc.

Your argument is that people don't talk about it as much in other sports. That's because of the popularity if each.

That is not the point I am trying to make. I am trying to point out people want to deny teams postseason football opportunities that teams in the other sports get.

Why do you think that?

Years of threads and posts on BGP stating that there are too many teams in football postseason. It is an annual ritual on BGP. Lopsided round 1 matchups and results are the impetus.

Right. So back to my original point. Football is more popular, hence why we talk about that way more.

I think you are assuming since we don't talk about it in other sports, we are fine with those things in those sports. I don't believe that's the case.

Let's ask the question then.

Should there be fewer teams allowed in basketball postseason?

And...

Why should district losing teams be allowed to keep playing in the postseason for a basketball state championship?

There should be minimum requirements to be eligible for post season play. If that means less teams, then yes.

I've long been of the opinion that only district champions should advance to regional tournaments. So, to answer your question, they shouldn't.
