I've been reading this off and on for well over a year. Wasn't always enjoyable but definitely learned a lot!

I really like Patrick Radden Keefe. His previous book, Say Nothing, about the Troubles in Northern Ireland was great, and was later made into a TV series on FX. However, this one was a bit overwhelming. There was so many characters to keep up and it seemed almost from the beginning that there would be no clear resolution. I wouldn't say don't read it but I might pick up something else before this one.

Enjoyed a brief vacation with my wife and finished off these two books in the process.

This one was interesting. In 1910, the Chalmers Auto Company sought to give a car to the hitter with the best batting average at the end of the season. All sorts of shenanigans ensue, with professional baseball having to modify rules and assign professional statisticians in the future. Ty Cobb ultimately won out over Napoleon Lajoie, but then about 70 years later it is realized that Cobb shouldn't have won and was awarded two extra hits. What does that mean? Well, when Pete Rose got hit number 4,192 in September 1985 he was actually already a couple of hits ahead of Cobb and had broken the record a couple of days earlier!
