The 6-4 Ashland Tomcats host the 3-7 Mason County Royals. Mason County was able to get one district win against Harrison County while Ashland fell to district foe Johnson County, giving them their one district loss and creating this first round matchup in the 4A first round. 

Mason County's 7 losses saw them let up at least 25 points per game and over 40 the past three games of the year. They have a huge test in front of them, facing one of the more dominant run games in the class, specifically one of the best rushers, Cam Davis. Davis was incredibly limited in the season finale loss to Lexington Catholic, only getting 2 rush attempts. Freshman Tanner Stutler also got the start at QB. 

It will be interesting to see what Coach Tackett does personnel wise and with the playbook in this one. This should be a game they win with some ease, but how conservative and cautious does he choose to be? The performance against Lexington Catholic definitely did not include the standard faces or style that they have gone with during the course of the year. There are definitely some important decisions on the table here. 

Mason County, if they want to pull the upset, will have to contain the pace of this game and keep it very slow and low-scoring, hoping for a puncher's chance at the end. The possibility of that becomes better (if still not all that likely) if Ashland's offense is not at full strength.
