Thanks for the encouraging words... Its always great to see people from outside the program gives words of encouragement.

Thought Bracken had a good game plan and played very well in district last year against Mason,then this year started out with 4 straight wins,now the loss streak has reached 10. 13 out of the last 15,I believe. Didn't expect much against Brossart,though even a 3-5 point loss would have been sufficient. Got to win out and show well against Mason in region if it comes down to that. How did the JV do tonite?

Coach Schultz will be back on the sidelines soon and it doesn't matter who is playing or coaching, players need to play hard no matter who its for. Its a rallying around time for the BC girls program, winning will cure a lot and collectively its done from top to bottom on that bench and the players have to play hard no matter what, every night. Everyone needs to be behind their team 100% not matter what night it is. Its the beauty of high school sports and why kentucky high school basketball is second to none.

Coach Kelsch is a fine coach. Well deserving of his own Varsity program, if that is what he chooses to do. I have had the opportunity to go against him at the Junior High Level, his teams were always prepared to play.

 

Two things I have learned the last 8 years coaching. The Asst Coach, no matter who it is, is always the most popular person on the staff. Second, there is a heck of alot more pressure sitting in that first chair, than in the Asst's chair.

 

I would not trade the last 3 years as a Head Coach for anything. It has been great, but as a Head Coach, it is all about "what have you done for me lately?"

 

Bracken's Girls have good coaches throughout. That is laying the foundation for the program. It takes time, and ALOT of HARD WORK to build and maintain a program. Seems like they are doing it the right way. Good luck the rest of the year.

I think that the girls played hard as well tonight but not any different then any other night when all of them come ready to play . Yes it may appear they played harder but if you are sitting in the stands looking for it, i think it appears to you just as if you sit there and look for negativity on something you can find that as well . The fact is Coach Kelsch did a good job tonight, but the girls didnt play any harder then they did against Lewis Co., Lloyd memorial, Campbell co. or any of the other games when everyone was ready to play. Coming off the Fleming co. loss where not all appeared to show up to play it would look like they played harder tonight . Lets just all continue to stick with and support the WHOLE Lady Bear program and have a good ending to the season. These young girls deserve it as well as the coaching staff they have all put alot of time and effort in NO ONE likes to loose.Good Luck Lady Bears finsh strong!!!!

Does Bracken normally play BB's JV that close? Have they beaten them in the past?

Just recently the JV has started to compete with BBs JV. Our Freshman team beat them last week, so we have a bright future.

 

Countryboy7 said it best in a previous post. We have to continue to support the girls and the whole program.

This teams plays hard every night... They have a good work ethic. I dont think it matters who the coach is, these girls respect the staff and give us all they got..

our Lady Bears JV and freshmen are and have been very competitive for sometime, but it seems like to me that they aren't getting any better once they leave those levels.. I dont know the reason for this and am not stating anything, but it seems like our girls peek at the wrong times..

Bracken County has a long history of great middle school and freshman teams on the boys and girls side as far back as when there was 3 elementary schools and except for a year here and there have under achieved on the varsity level, the reasons are varied.

All in - please explain those varied reasons...

I know some girls play in MS and not in high school..

Coaching philosophies are different..

The various reasons would take forever,but to simplify it would be 3 words(Driver's license, priorities). To one degree or another,just think it is that simple. In a lot of school systems the high schools plays and philosophies(so to speak) are put into effect from 5th grade level and up,so as the coaches change from grade to grade,at least the kids don't have to buy into a new system. Don't know if this is done at Bracken,maybe someone in the know can fill us in.

There is no doubt that Coach Patrick Kelsch is ready for a head job somewhere, he is young, knowledgeable, and full of energy and that carries over to the players. Kids that see that kind of energy do not want to be slow on the floor. Coach Kelsch is a basketball junkie, you never know where he will pop up and watch a game. Comes from a great basketball bloodline family, has paid his dues in the middle school and high school ranks and its only a matter of time before he sufaces at some school as their top guy.

Nice job Coach K. and Lady Bears. Would have been real easy to pack up and quit starting out 14-0. Hard to be positive in a 20 point loss but there are some good things. Bracken is a little out gunned against Brossart but these Ladies don't quit just cause the odds are against them. Good Luck the rest of the way.
