Yes. Even though they lost alot of play makers on offense to graduation their offense is pretty much plug and play. The way their offense is ran anyone who is apart of it is going to have a chance to make plays.

Agreed.  And the impossible part is how fast their no huddle is.  You cannot come close to replicating it in practice with a scout team.  And their passing concepts are so different from everyone else's around.  Their coach does a phenomenal job with concepts and keeping defenses off balanced.

Cooper ran exactly zero plays of true man coverage last year.

  • I love how Cooper scheduled this year and no matter what happens in the season (assuming no injuries) the Jags will be battle tested for the playoffs. Give me Anderson (OH) in this one but I will

They run a version of the air raid.  They get plays off typically well under 20 seconds.  The tempo is like nothing you have seen.  They have numerous games each year where they run 80+ plays a game.

What do they run?

New Colonel summed it up pretty well. Their pace and the concepts are extraordinary. I saw it posted somewhere last year but their time of possession stats are insane. The run a large amount of plays in a very short amount of time and score very quickly. They spread it out and all over the field ALOT.

Cooper is going to have to run the ball to eat up some clock just so they can get their defense a rest. If not it could be a long night.

They run a version of the air raid.  They get plays off typically well under 20 seconds.  The tempo is like nothing you have seen.  They have numerous games each year where they run 80+ plays a game. They'll screen you to death, and then hit you way over the top with what looks like the same action but backside TE or something will be wide open 35 yards down the field.   And most people play coverage, which is fine, but they'll gash you on the run if you do that.   They have most entertaining offense to watch in the tri-state.

And last year, I remember the one time I saw Copper play, they played a lot of man coverage which you cannot do with Anderson.   They run too many pick routes.

I'll be shocked if Cooper keeps it close.

They average more in the 60s as far as plat per game. From the few times I’ve watched them they remind me of Todd Dodge’s South Lake Carroll offense.

The offense is kind of grouped with either both sides having 1 hi beaters with another WR having a shoot the middle route. The good old 7 on 7 special of double smash with a very down the middle is an example. The other category is more like 1 hi to one side and 2 hi to the other with a man/blitz answer built in. The offense is honestly pretty basic but it is well structured and coached.

One problem Cooper will have is that they refuse to take their nickel from the wide side of the field. This is pretty common in NKY. Cooper isn’t complex in coverage. They just play it really well and don’t have many breakdowns. Anderson will get pretty consistent pictures coverage wise.

Averaging 60+ offensive plays is still crazy at the high school level.

Sometimes it’s difficult to tell the difference between quarters and two read and man for some people. I could be wrong but Cooper is a split field coverage team that at least at one time based heavily on the TCU defense. I have no idea what they play in the secondary down on the goal line.

And still probably trailed in time of possession. I don't know that to be true for all their games but I know they had some crazy TOP outcomes. You think with that many plays they would lead majority of the time in TOP and not trail. But it works for them. That's what could be scary is if their defense is as good as their suppose to be and they spend majority of the time on the field.

TOP is an overrated stat in today’s game. Getting to 60+ plays a game isn’t overly difficult. If you throw the ball 30-40 times you’ll stop the clock with incomplete passes or ending up out of bounds. If you score quickly with explosives (which Anderson does) your TOP won’t be much.

Then why don't more teams do it?

Because they don’t play that style of football. Same reason more teams don’t rush or pass for 300 yards. Honestly if you average the number of plays they ran a game last year it would be probably under 60. Now part of that is running clocks and the other part is teams holding the ball/long drives.

If you buy into tempo and your offense is designed a certain way hitting 60 isn’t that hard. It’s like teams in basketball that will press and shoot quickly (Paul Westhead style). Those basketball teams be design will skew their stats by overall design.

The other end of the spectrum is the traditional double wing teams like Don Markham style. Those teams are in no hurry to snap the ball and run super power 40 times. Their rushing numbers will inflate along with TOP. Their defensive numbers will be misleading due to the style of offense they play. Granted Markham set the national scoring record at one point because his offense was new.
