Coach at Greenup?

Featured Replies

This sounds like a circus. How are the kids holding up under the constant turmoil? They seemed to have been forgotten in the politics.

The kids are doing the best they can, but what could've been a promising season has hit the skids. Now that's not saying that they can't get it back, but that is a difficult task being that it is February and the postseason is coming closer and closer. I do wish the best to these kids as I fully understand the situation they are in. This whole situation could've been avoided by the administrators this past summer, by simply not rehiring the coach, but now he is a tenured teacher and can dig in for what ever is to come. Needless to say this team that had (has) great potential continues to have a major uphill battle. So with that said I wish them the best.

Not true, there is no written rule stating that an administrator could not coach in the system.

Not sure about all systems, but I know that a Head principal can not be a Head coach, but an assistant principal can. I know our football coach is an assistant principal...when the head principal job came open he did not want it because he would have to give up coaching.

That is true now that I think about it. I have a friend in the western half of the state who is Vice-Principal and also head coach of the golf team and track. But, I guess those are just minor sports and don't matter when it comes to the Big 3 (Football, Basketball, and Baseball) in the eyes of administrators.

Mike Flynn is the head basketball coach and vice principal at Bourbon Co. High School. It depends on the district and the administration. I know a lot of districts would be much better off allowing some administrators running some of the high school programs.

Again, it depends on the district. But, if you take the time to look at policy many districts work off of an "unwritten rule" that it can not be done. Basically, no policy in place, but that is just understood.

Not a snowballs chance.

Mills has been mentioned from the beging of this. He has the in roads to the position. And the In-laws to get it for him.

I wasn't suggesting that Humphrey come to Greenup. I simply wanted to know where he was now. And now that I know, it wouldn't be in his best interest to leave GRC for anywhere in the 16th...

Have you forgotten that Hicks brought this all on himself when he turned in Robinson from Russell to the KHSAA and then pulled the complaint a few days later. Wonder why he pulled that compaint. Do you think he may have been in contact with Robinson also. (phone records) He opened the whole can of worms. I guess you want the super to look the other way on the issue. So than your saying its ok to brake rules. The super is a great guy who goes by the book.He has devoted his whole career to the Greenup County school system. He has been a PE teacher, Football coach and won a couple of state championships in Legion baseball with the Greenup County players. He has gotten a bad rap on this by people who do not know the whole story. If he dosent follow up on this I believe this would put the school in a bad situation with the KHSAA. Once a school official being a coach, teacher, Superintendent, has knowledge of wrong doing they must report it or face the KHSAA. I would rather see a coach who got himself in this position go than the kids and the school system be punished.

Also I know Sean Horn was turned down to coach in the greenup system because he was a principle at one of the Elementary Schools. It is a district rule.

I honestly could care less about Hicks the situation is just reminiscent of the continued political issues the GC schools have had since the consolidation of the 3 schools. Believe me I know the situation as I've seen all of the political nonsense from the very beginning. The reality is these 3 schools should've never been put together; the county is too diverse on both ends to be consolidated. But, now we are left to deal with the mess, thanks a bunch Lowdenback (If you are old enough you know what I'm saying).

I'm glad for Coach Sutton, he's a good guy and will do a good job.

Best post ever by GIAT.

As for the coaching situation at GCHS I believe that both Hicks and school admin. have to shoulder and share the blame. Imo Hicks was by no means innocent or a "model" employee and on the same note the GCHS admin. did not do a very good job of how they have handled the situation all year. There are problems within the system at GC, I hope for the kids sake that they can get things worked out. Congrats to coac Sutton, imo he will do a good job.

Again, there is no rule that will not allow a principal to coach.....It depends on the super.......IMO Horn would have been a great asset to any team or program.
