February 2, 200719 yr I disagree with you on this one Ram. Wins over Kentucky, Baylor, Northwestern, UConn, Duke, etc. are far less impressive than wins over TCU, Tulsa, Fresno, Hawaii, Boise, BYU etc. For Louisville to add Vandy, the worst SEC team historically, or second worst if you put UK there, brings nothing to their schedule. If you are a top 25 program like UL, I can't think of any reason to play Duke or Vandy or Northwestern etc. in football unless you want to say you have "X" wins against BCS conference schools. But with Tulsa, TCU, Fresno, Boise, there's a fairly good chance that when you play them, they won't be any good. Schedules are done in advance of when the lightning in a bottle is caught. Just look at one of your examples, Fresno State. They got pounded this season, they started out 1-7. They went 4-4 in the WAC. What would Louisville have gained by scheduling them over a mediocre BCS team?

TCU, Fresno, Hawaii and Boise have been better than Vandy the past 5-10 years. That's all we hear from Boise is that no one wants to play them. Why not schedule a home and home with them? The bowl game was a great one. I still haven't heard a good explanation for trying to schedule Vandy. To borrow your phrase, "Vandy's never even caught a spark in the bottle." Temple was scheduled a number of years ago, it was part of a multi game contract and this year was a return date for our last game against the Owls in 2003. Murray St was the best team that would do home and home with Louisville, and fill a home date this year. It's not that shocking considering when the hole in the schedule came up.

I don't know, but there were some reasons for U of L scheduling the game: It was a game against a BCS opponent, a very short trip (the bean counters in the athletic department loved it) and it would have been an ESPN game. This is a business, you know. Plus, Louisville fans would have made the road trip.

If they played Louisville's schedule (substituting the Cards for their position in the schedule), Kentucky would lose to West Virginia, Rutgers, Louisville, and would lose at least one game among Cincinnati (away), Pittsburgh, or South Florida (away).

UK could have beaten South Carolina last year, but didn't. And, no, I don't think Kentucky would get a win in the three games mentioned.
