I have heard rumors that Mike Whitaker, who helped a guy by the name of Tim Couch make his Millions (Coached Couch in high school), is interested in the head coaching job @ Powell Co.

 

Any truth to this rumor ?

This would surprise me. It is a little closer to home but Christian County seems to have great athletes. I would have expected for him to wait on one of the traditional powerhouse jobs to open or for the new Harlan Central job. Has Powell County decided to make a big Committment to football?

Really? From what I heard, some of the reasons that Coach Jones left Powell County was because he didn't get any support from the administration there. Why all of the sudden the change of heart from the Powell County administration?

If it means anything Whitaker has been a no show at the Christian Co. weightroom workouts.

He is another guy who is routinely mentioned when jobs in our area come open. I have to admit this one does surprise me a little though.

Powell has and is always committed to making the programs better. Well, until it actually comes to making good on promises that the administration gives. The record speaks for itself, zero winning season.

Has there been talk of Whitaker being pushed out at CC? He has been a bit of an underachiever at CC. Why would he want to take this huge down grade in jobs? To go from a good 4A program to an awlful 2A program just doesn't make sense to me.

I could see him wanting to come back to Eastern Ky since his parents and his sister and her family still live in Corbin, but I would expect something closer to that area if he was looking to leave Christian Co.

My source says there is some validity to this rumor. I had to make a couple of phone calls and twist an arm.

I wouldn't say he's beeing pushed out. But if he left Christian Co. I don't think they would stop him. Since he's been there after every season he's considered leaving. He's been upset in the past over his wifes jobs in the school system. He originally turned down the CC job because they wouldn't hire his wife for the position him and her wanted.

 

He's had some good teams but they seem to peak early. In 03 they fell apart at the end of the season and admitted they were a coaching staff that was divided. In 05 after being eliminated be went on a rampage in the paper and radio about officials cheating him and gave no credit to Warren Central for coming from 21 behind to win.

^ I personally have never thought much of Whitaker as a coach. He has had some very good teams that should have done more.

Heard through the grapevine that he's been in contact with PC and has an interview. Can't understand Powell Co., though. Not much to work with there. Plus , there can't be too much money involved. I think they draw more crowds at baseball games than at football games.
