1A Preseason Rankings?

Here is a look at how the last three weeks of the 1A football season played out last year. So now that we're just under 3 weeks away from the 2024 football season kicking off, what are you thinking in terms of preseason rankings for 1A?

Have any of these teams dropped out of the picture for the beginning of this season?

Are any of the quarterfinalists or semifinalists looking more like finalists this season? Or vice versa?

What about teams like Paris, Bethlehem, and Louisville Holy Cross...do you see them making it any deeper of a playoff run than they did last year?

I think if anyone can give Pikeville a game this year it might be Campbellsville. They picked up a few nice players from Taylor.

Cross Watson, Bryson Turpin, Nigel Coppage have enrolled at Campbellsville.

John Golston DB/WR played in 6 of Taylor County's 12 games last year as a freshman. Mostly on defense, where he had a handful of tackles. He is at Campbellsville now. He's the only one I had heard transferred.

Gholston is not enrolled at Campbellsville and has not been at football practice…

Well then I stand corrected, haha. I have a lot of chatter sent my way on here and on Twitter. Sometimes it's tough keeping up with what's rumored and what's legitimate. Thanks for clearing it up.

Not familiar with Nigel Coppage, and I'm not too familiar with Bryson Turpin, but Cross Watson was one of the top 2 or 3 players on Taylor County's team last year that wouldn't have been lost to graduation. He's a clutch wide receiver - had the second most receptions for Taylor Co last year - and he was 4th in tackles on defense. Big loss for Taylor Co, big gain for Campbellsville.

Looks like Coppage was an 8th grader last year at Taylor Co Middle. He's not on Taylor Co's 2023 varsity roster, and he doesn't show up in any of their KHSAA stats from last year, so I'm assuming he didn't see any varsity time and would thereby be automatically eligible to play at Campbellsville. Turpin and Watson will both be juniors this year. Have those two been cleared by the KHSAA to play at Campbellsville?
