DevilMayCare Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 The Hawks (🇳🇮, 19-17) survive a 15 inning marathon with the Commanders (🇹🇰, 14-15) to repeat as champs of R5. Any details on this one @5thregionbasketball? I can't imagine anyone had this as the 5th Region final. The co-favorites (Taylor County and Central Hardin) went down in flames in the semis. 1
5thregionbasketball Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 Was an absolute classic of a game. Both teams had plenty of chances in extra innings to push across a run but just couldn't do it. In the bottom of the 10th, Washington County had the bases loaded and nobody out. A pop fly that was dropped by the 2nd baseman (infield fly rule applied) caused the runners to take off, not realizing that the batter was out. Baines Turner, the 2nd baseman threw a rope to nail the runner at home and then the catcher threw to 3rd to get that runner for a season saving triple play. In the top of the 15th, Larue had bases loaded and 1 out (I think) hit a groundball back to the pitcher. The pitcher threw it to the backstop allowing a run to score and then a suicide squeeze followed that gave Larue a 4-2 lead heading to the bottom of the 15th. The Commanders were able to get one run across and had the tying run at third when Beau Baker (who had hit 3 hrs in the tournament already) popped out in the infield and the next batter went down on strikes to end the game. Was an absolute fantastic game!! Easily the best high school sporting event I've ever seen. 2 2

The series of events following the pop-up in the bottom of the 10th - Washington base runners blanking on the infield fly rule and LaRue's quick thinking and execution to secure the outs at home and third - are a perfect example. 1
Kentucky Windage Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Baseball is one of those sports where you think you've seen it all.... then it either bites you or you bark. You hate it for the loser but you love it for the winner.Â
Hardin County Preps Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Unfortunately, LaRue County gets a matchup with PRP in the first round of the state tournament, who happens to have the best record in the state at 36-3. LaRue County will surely have Brayden Singleton on the mound, who is their best pitcher. He was able to shut out Central Hardin in the 5th region tournament. 1
