And who do you think has the final say. From everything I have read Mike Brown turned over those decisions to Marvin. I wonder if this year with the events that have prespired that Mike doesn't get a little bit more involved. And that is not good news for the Bengals.

 

 

There is no chance Marvin had final say. When the controlling owner is sitting on the committee she has the final say. She might have let Marvin make that decisison, but it's her call in the end. If she had a major problem with Rucker or Nicholson and them having a recent record she could have put the nix on drafting them.

I agree with that but after the flops of the 90's, I believe they have gone with the attitude that "In Marvin Trust." Remember that phrase that was so highly touted at the beginning of the year.

Other than CP I never thought any of our draft picks were "great". Last year with Pollack and Thurman looked very promising, but that didn't pan out. I was questioning that phrase more recently then this season.

And with that on their resume', Marvin decided to bring them to the Bengals. It seems the Bengals do ACTUALLY listen to their coach and follow his role model.

 

He has made poor judgement on who he has brought in and they follow that poor judgement with their actions.

 

Rucker and Nicholosan happened before they drafted them, and they have done nothing wrong since they been on the team. Young people make mistakes sometimes, but should they not be given a second chance? Yeah sometimes players with a previous record wouldn't learn and still would do it again in the NFL. While others though would have learned their lesson the first time and not do it again. There are going to be times when it works out and times when it dont. Just for Marvin it seems like everyone decided to do this all at once...

If you are not going to follow through with considering character than don't say you are. Be honest and then let people line up to support you as Al Davis did with the "Just win, baby" mantra.

 

Don't sell one thing, do something else, have the team become the leading criminal group of the NFL, sell another lie that it didn't affect the team contrary to what the players say, tell us things are going to change and then they stay the same.

For whatever reason, the players are NOT listening to him in what seems to be on the field actions as well as off the field actions. And that is very dangerous for a team when the coach loses his ability to influence the players.

He said it himself, "My definition of character is different than your(media's) definition of character." He has more information on these players than any of us ever will. Obviously, he was satisfied with what he learned about these players' backgrounds and their previous transgressions.

 

The players talked about selfishness, which has nothing to do with the off the field issues. Marvin also said about issues of selfishness, "They exist on every team, they just get talked about when you don't win."

 

The only thing he said was going to change was the punishment, and that sitll remains to be seen, in the season, when he can deactivate.

 

No coach in any league influences players off the field; they are on their own and the ones that choose to get in trouble are like every other delingquent; they aren't thinking of their coach; they are thinking they aren't going to get caught. Those players love Marvin and look at him like a father, and what son hasn't done something that they thought their dad would not find out about? The problem is they have millions of dollars at their disposal; more money=bigger issues.

 

Those attitudes had nothing to do with off the field behavior; Chris Henryand Deltha O'Neal are the only players that got significant playing time that had off the field issues. So those 20+ other players were fine and these 2 caused them to go 8-8???? Do you see the giant leap in logic? Do you the overgeneralizations?
