9th Region Week 10 Rankings and Review

Featured Replies

There were less fireworks this week in the 9th region but you can definitely feel the district tournaments starting to creep up. Let's take a look at the highlights and layout the rankings.

- Newport rolls over Bellevue easily to stay unbeaten since December 23rd.

- CovCath easily defeats Campbell County and Ryle.

- Cooper defeats two 10th region historical powers in Campbell County and Mason County.

- Ryle, losing to CovCath, is the only top ten to lose last week as their were fewer games overall than usual and a lot of lopsided results.

Rankings

1. Newport

2. Cooper

3. CovCath

4. Lloyd

5. Boone

6. Ryle

7. Holy Cross

8. Highlands

9. Dixie

10. Conner

11. St. Henry

12. Beechwood

13. NCC

14. Ludlow

15. Bellevue

16. Villa Madonna

17. Heritage

18. Holmes

19. Dayton

20. Covington Latin

Heard there were some injuries in the 33rd district that could have an impact going into districts and regionals...

Care to elaborate? Obviously a cooper injury because as many would agree they are the only ones slated to make noise at Truist.

Watched the Cooper/Mason game and saw that Yamil Rondon was in a sling on the sidelines.

Didn’t Ryle lose back to back games last week to Highlands and Cov Cath?

Per the KHSAA scoreboard, you are correct.

That would be troublesome, he's the engine that makes that thing go. You lose Mil and you lose the head of your snake.

Troublesome, absolutely. Do they need Yamil to make a deep run in the tournament, maybe, but I caution folks if they plan to count the Jaguars out due to injuries. Coach Sully will have everyone raising their game on the defensive end of the floor and they will demonstrate just how deep this team is. This team already goes 10 deep without arguably their best player in Andy Johnson so I fully expect Jaiden Combs to raise his game to an even higher level, if that’s possible with the way he’s been playing along with Shaun Pouncy becoming even more dominant. Isaac Brown has already been raising his game at a sneaky level.
Ball handling and play creation on the offensive end is certainly unmatched and takes a hit with Yamil missing, so I look for a committee approach offensively to try and make up for his absence but I fully expect to see is more low scoring, grimy defensive games until they get their injured guys get back.
Coach Sullivan is use to this “rodeo” and based upon the long stretches of injuries during the ‘16-‘17 season he knows how to get his team to raise their games, especially on the defensive end, when his top players go down for extended periods.

Should be interesting.

No idea.  Just that he did not dress and was in a sling.

Sorry, just saw you were looking for Sixer to respond.  My bad.

No biggie, hey any insight is good insight. Hopefully he is okay for post season I would like to see everyone at full strength.

I look for the team to be at full strength for the stretch run.
