This is the same in all levels of football, correct?  And as harsh as it seems sometimes I have no problem with this rule.  Take care of the ball and there won't be any worries...

I was about ready to bring this up.

I get why the rule is in place, but it is a legitimate question to ask if the punishment is too harsh. I would be fine with bringing the ball back out to the 20 with a loss of down? Even that has its drawbacks.

Belichick has always claimed he coaches players not to extend the ball in these situations. Who knows if that is true or if other coaches don't don't do the same. I have learned if you give the ball to Mecole Hardman, something bad will generally happen.

Not sure how many realize this but many think of the Bills bad luck going back to their years in the early 90's and then the missed game tying FG last night.

Here is a little fact that is rarely mentioned but the bad luck really started in 2017 with this below from the 2017 NFL Draft.
