Scott's Freshman team is a work in progress right now, They may only keep 5 players from this class and probably only 3 for all four years.....Daniel O'Connor is a 6"5 Freshman who coach car is expecting to be a all region player by the time he is a Senior....Hopefully he developes so he can help a little next year. The best Freshman Player is Jake Niederegger he is a 6"1 guard who will compete for a varsity starting spot next year....Aaron Wonner 6'0 G/F good peremeter shooter,,,O'Connor and Niederegger are the guys in this class...Scott's point guard is a eighth grader from woodland Kellen Smith he is the little brother of Sr Ryne Smith, and Coach Carr expects him to play JV next year as a freshman......

 

Are you including the 8th grader as a keeper from this class? How has he been able to compete on the frosh level? How has this group competed against the other frosh teams in their district?

Wednesday -- Harrison vs. Nicholas 6p.m.; Deming vs. Pendleton 7:30

 

Saturday -- Championship game 12 noon.

I'd say Mason County. How are the Camels? The Camel freshman were the best group of basketball players to come through CC since the class of 95.

 

 

While this is a good group of freshman players at CCHS I may have to question this statement. The two most recent teams complied a better record than this team so far. This year's team is 10-8 while the current junior class complied a record of 20-5 with losses to Scott Co by 5 and 8, Lex Cath by 7, Dixie by 2 and Mason Co by 6. This team also outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points a game.

 

The current sophomore class complied a record of 17-5 losing to Mason Co in the regional finals.

 

While this current freshman class is improving and we expect good things from them, I am not sure they are the best to come out since 1995. Brady Jolly and Cody Neises are good players and may see some JV action before the year is out.

I was refering to their talent growing up. I graduated in 97. I officiated basketball from the time I was 14 until I was 24. I saw every class between 95 and this year's 8th graders. As freshman, the juniors were obviously better, but I was refering to them growing up and playing in intramurals.

 

The next best class would have been the class that graduated in 98. After that it was the team that won region. The best player in that class growing up was Reggie Gates. He could slap the backboard and shoot a lay-up as a 6th grader. He moved away or something.

Kellen Smith has done a tremendous job at the Freshman level he is the second leading scorer on the team and starts at the point guard spot.. He is excellent at passing the ball and makes smart decisions and rarely turns it over,,,,He is only in the eighth grade so he does need to get stronger and his perimeter shot is improving I expect Smith to stay with this group.....The Freshman team is a work in progress like i said, I think Last i heard they were like 6-11 or something like that... 6 of the 12 players they have played in middle school with each other......The reamaing six are players that the coaching staff are trying to develope.....

How many games have you seen the Scott freshman play?

I certainly haven't seen all the 10th region freshmen teams play but our freshmen have played four 10th region teams and from what I have seen Mason was the best.

40th district tournament is Saturday @ Montgomery Co. I'm not sure who is playing who right now. I'll find out and let everyone know.

Do winners and runnerup advance to the regionals in the freshmen district tournaments or just the winner?

I remember Cody, Brady, and Brett. Brett is a pg left-handed right? Cody is a soccer player. I've known Brady forever.

 

Brett is a little, very aggressive player. He has not seen much playing time this year.
