Lyon County 110 Floyd Central 72

This game was played in the historic Wayland High gymnasium in Floyd County where the Wasp’s King Kelly Coleman played his home games in the 1950’s.

Here are some photos from Cats Pause Aaron Gershon from before the game.

Wonder what the King might have scored if that 3-point line had been in effect in his era!

They said on the WYMT broadcast that while the floor has been refinished and repainted just like all courts, that is the original wood from when the building opened. That's pretty neat!

I don't know what the Mountain Sports Hall of Fame's intentions are with the gym but I would love to see it used in a way similar to the Hoosiers gym in Knightstown, Indiana. If you don't know, teams pay a fee to play games there and the money is used to continue to keep the gym open for tours, a museum, and gift shop. Several Kentucky teams have played there in recent years.

They have a basketball museum there in one of the adjacent buildings. Also, a short distance from the Wayland Gym is a restaurant that has a 1950’s theme and appearance. It has a jukebox with the old ‘50’s music and has tables and booths and stools and menu that will take you back in time.
