A grade school student playing Frosh is not a roster spot if there are not sufficent numbers to form a Frosh team because other Frosh are playing JV or Varsity. That is done often in small schools in other sports such as Soccer whereby grade school students are needed to fill out a JV or Frosh roster. Whole different situation to place a grade school student on a Varsity roster over a paying student. Bad karma.

Right and since Sandfoss played JV as an 8th grader she took a spot over a tuition paying student. I don't really care either way, but I do know some that did care last year. Bad Karma would be an understatement.

The freshman class is really strong. However, from what I have seen, the sophomore class in the area is even better.

Put it this way. In every private high school in NKY there is most likely a grade school player better than at least one player on the Frosh team. But taking that player over a tuition paying student is big time bad karma.

No one was "cut" from any teams at Ncc from what I have been told, so she did NOT take anyone's roster spot. If you want private schools to compete with publics who can play anyone in their system "up" you have to allow the same thing at private schools. Otherwise we would have an "uneven" playing field, and Lord knows we don't want that. Since NO tuition money whatever is used to support sports, that has nothing to do with it.

Just as no grade school student should be a writer for the high school paper, or an actor in the high school play, or on the high school academic team. Public or private. If that means no JV golf team, no Frosh soccer team, or no Frosh basketball team so be it. If there aren't enough high school students interested to publish the school paper then those that want to will have to do the best they can ,or just do not put a paper out.

I couldn't agree with you more about no grade school kids playing high school ball. It's the same old saw though, if one does it then everyone thinks they they have follow suit, and they are probably right. There is a whole lot wrong with youth sports now, one being it is too organized at all levels and kids are almost required to play year round if they really want to compete at the highest level. This particularly hurts small schools where really good athletes wind up playing just one sport when they could probably excel in 2 or 3 sports. The only way itwill end is if the KHSAA prohibits non highschoolers from playing, like it is in Ohio. Fat chance of that ever happening.
