Both of these teams got out of the gate with exciting wins this week.

Henderson County (1-0) hosted a fiesty Meade Cunty 6A rival and it must have been a great game with Hendo winning 35-34.  I saw where Meade County's kicker was 4 for 4 for XPs.  So that likely means Meade went for 2 at the end of the game and didn't get it giving the Colonels the opening week win!

The Spartans (1-0) drove the bus over to Campbellsville yesterday and came away with a Forcht Bank Bowl win 48-38 over a North Hardin.  JR WR Ethan Reynolds was named the Player of the game.  It is interesting for me to note that not including South's very first season as a school football program in 2011, South Warren has only given up at least 38 points 5 times (once in 2012 to Monroe County; once in 2016 to Pope John Paul II and twice in 2017 - to BG in the regular season and to CovCath in the playoffs and in the 2020 playoffs to BG).  I say this because South has always hung their hats on being a stingy defense and above all things stopping the run.  I think that is still a work in progress for the 2023 season.

What do I expect from this game?  I think it will be entertaining to say the least, pretty unpredictable.  I look for both teams to score quite a few points and who ever can get a few stops will likely walk out the victor.

Yes, Purple88, Meade County went for the win with the 2- point conversion attempt and failed.

For what it is worth, Meade County rushed for 152 yards and passed for 207 yards vs Henderson County. I know South Warren is down this year but so is Henderson County. I will take South Warren at home. 

I will also take SW. I’ve heard Henderson is down as well. South’s poor defense from last yr as seemingly barrier over to 2023. 
 

Although, UL commit Shaun Boykins was a major factor in that they still have some major holes on the defensive side. Thankfully for them, Norths defense was even more like Swiss cheese.

As competition gets tougher I don’t know think SW will continue to put up anything close to 48pts a game so defense must improve.

This is a really big game for South IMO.

Why?  Because their next 4 games are as follows:

at Southwestern (played 6A Ballard within 1 score)

vs. Gibson Southern (you have to be really disciplined to beat the Titans)

at Manual (Manual has looked really good so far this year and Manual Stadium is a tough place to play)

at Greenwood (The Gators are playing very well right now)

 

To me this is a 60-40 game for South.  The 4 games above I feel South is the underdog in each of those games.  So playing well and defeating a solid Henderson County team is really important.

I'll go with South Warren.
