I have no idea on WKY Frosh Teams, does anyone figure to have a strong team?

Good Question @theguru.  I typically try to keep up with BG and Owensboro's Freshmen squads and go to that game when I can.

 

I do know that there is a "Freshman Jamboree" this Saturday morning from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Warren Central High School.  I'm not sure of the list of teams playing.  If I decide to go, I'll put a note on this thread.  It's just a long way from 10:30 am to the start of the varsity game so likely won't make it.

 

Here is BG's Freshman Schedule after the Jamboree this Saturday:

8/24  at Henderson County

8/31  vs Apollo

9/14  at Owensboro

9/21  vs Daviess County

9/27  vs Allen County-Scottsville

10/12  at Logan County

10/19  vs South Warren

10/26  vs Greenwood

 

I know Mayfield hasn’t fielded a freshman team in many years.

What do they do instead?

Not enough kids to have a team of strictly freshmen so they just do JV with their freshmen and sophomores.

Owensboro beat mayfield in SW KY championship of 8th grade last year.  Very good QB but not sure if he will play JV or freshman.  Freshman RB ran nicely vs Boyle.

Do you know why neither of those schools participated in the statewide middle school playoffs?

I have always wondered this too Squirrel.  As I know those teams are really good, but they aren't in the state wide tournament.  I know Paducah Tilghman and McCracken County are in it along with BG, maybe Logan County, Caverna and some others.

The past few years Paducah has definitely had Mayfields number in middle school football. With that being said, the 6th grade class at Mayfield is loaded so hopefully they get a chance to play in the statewide playoff these next few years.

I would think a couple of these schools would struggle to field a freshman team they might slip a few sophomores in there on BG.

No I don’t know.  There seem to be a few different state tournaments.  This one is a playoff and a state champ.  With multiple tournaments there is not a unified champ.  Owensboro beat South Warren and Christian County.  I never watch those but rarely.
