Is club/travel/etc ball getting out of hand?

Featured Replies

Seeing multiple social media posts today along with being at a baseball tournament this weekend got me thinking even more about youth sports. Are things starting to get out of hand? This weekend, I saw 4 boys walking around in slings with arm injuries. I saw where an 8u softball team played 5 consecutive games in 1 day. Tackle football is being played right now, and the comments were they rarely practice so just going out and playing games.

It’s been out of hand, imo.

I agree.  It just seems like it's getting worse.

Club volleyball is a terrible thing. It is really hurting some girls basketball programs.

Yeah seeing people play “club soccer “ on a Thursday night ??‍♂️ in the spring. It’s getting stupid.

Rule 13

My daughter played club lacrosse for 6 years.  It was a good experience for her overall; but towards the end it was a grind.  The club coach asking my daughter and her teammates to play up so 3 girls could play in much tougher divisions.  Then 2 of those girls didn't show later in tournaments and they had 1 sub.

I think it is getting worse all the time honestly though.  Glad she is getting out now.

My sons team played this past Thursday-Saturday in a Lexington tournament. Not bad so you would think. One game Thursday at Centre College, Friday at Lafayette High, Saturday one game at Western Hills and the one at East Jessamine. One would think the tournament would be played at one local set of fields not spread over such a vast area. If we had advanced to the Finals (we had no shot in doing so) we would’ve had two games at East Jessamine then the next two at Centre. Logistically insane. To me it seems the directors of many tournaments don’t care about anything but the bottom line (shocking I know) and they either mislead Coaches (our coaches claim they were very surprised) or the coaches mislead the parents. Either way it’s a grind on everyone. People have to take off weekdays to get the kids to the games and also waste entire summer weekends, if you don’t work weekends. It’s gotten to be just play one week night game then just tournaments with no time for actual practice and I most certainly can tell fundlamentals still lack for our team and many teams we play.
