It looked like a good one was brewing early on, but the three balls started falling for Ashland and the Tomcats dictated pace to blow Russell out and advance to the 16th Region finals tomorrow against the winner of Boyd County/Lewis County.

 

Hard to beat any team when they shoot 15 for 32 from 3.

Zander Carter was the high point man for the game with 25 to go with 7 boards and 5 assists. Braxton Jennings provided an unexpected offensive lift with 19. Rheyce Deboard and Tristan Davis each had 14. The Tomcats connected on 15 threes.

Damon Charles led Russell with 14 points. Elijah Neel and Tatum Fleming both had 13.

Great year for the Devils that concludes with a record of 26-7. There's a lot to look forward to with the young talent on the roster - they started two 8th graders this season.

Playing them during the regular season probably would have helped Russell learn a little more about Ashland's offense and how to defend it.

Russell didn't need Ashland on the schedule to improve like you Ashland folks thought. Russell might add Ashland back now that Mays and his ways are gone.

Personally I don't care who Russell plays I will support them no matter what. I wouldn't care if Russell ever played Ashland in any sport again in regular season I would still support them.

They still played each other this year in 6th-8th grade in my middle school conference.
