Bourbon County High School is pleased to introduce our next Head Football Coach, Bret Baierlein. We are so excited to have Coach Baierlein joining Colonel Nation!

Bret Baierlein is a native of Garrard County, graduating from Garrard County High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served 5 years on active duty. Coach Baierlein holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in History from Eastern Kentucky University, as well as a Master's degree in Education from Campbellsville University.

Coach Baierlein has over two decades of experience at all levels of football. He began his coaching career at Garrard Middle School in 2002, eventually serving as the Head Coach from 2006-2011, where he became the school's all-time winningest head coach. Coach Baierlein entered the high school coaching ranks in 2013, serving on the staff at Mercer County Senior High School. While coaching for the Titans, he was the Special Teams coordinator, as well as coaching defensive backs, outside linebackers, and wide receivers.

In 2014, Coach Baierlein returned to Garrard County High School. He spent the next 8 seasons as an assistant on the staff, coaching various positions - eventually being named Defensive Coordinator in 2019. In 2021, Coach Baierlein served as the interim Head Coach, earning the distinction of being named Advocate Messenger co-Coach of the Year. The following season, he was on the sidelines as the Defensive Coordinator at Lincoln County High School during the 2022 football season.

Coach Baierlein is also a social studies teacher, who has received the following honors for his work in the classroom and community: Eastern Kentucky University History Department Distinguished Alumni Award, 2019 Garrard Central Record Teacher of the Year, and 2021 Campbellsville University Excellence in Teaching Award.

Coach Baierlein has been married for 17 years to his wife, Priscilla.

Bret did a super job when he had to fill in for Coach Perry at Garrard when coach was sick. The Mercer guys always spoke highly of him as well. Wish him the best... and that is not always easy for an old Greyhound to say.   ?

I met Bret for the first time this past fall in his role as an assistant coach at Lincoln County.

As I got to know him better, I have learned that he is a true American Patriot and good citizen. He is a Marine Corps veteran who was at the Pentagon on 9/11, and he served Lancaster City for many years.
 

He will be missed as a coach at LCHS but he will be even more missed as a classroom teacher. The feedback on him as a teacher has been great. 
 

Good luck, Coach Baierlein, you have a fan in me and many others in Lincoln County.

Similarly, high school and college/university administrators and officials, when discussed in a strictly non-political manner, are all permissible on BGP.
