9th Region Week 10 Review

The 9th region is going to look real dangerous come tournament time! This is my first week taking over the 9th region, and I look forward to the conversations I will get to have with all of you! I have watched majority of the teams in the 9th Region, so I feel that I have a good feeling on it, but still not perfect. 

While I wish I had the time to go as in depth for the 9th as I do the 8th, I sadly do not have the time in my week to do that. If there is time for me to get it done, I will do it without a doubt!

Region Rankings

 

1. Covington Catholic Colonels (20-3)

This past week Covcath was taken to OT by a solid Campbell County squad, and lost to a red hot Male team in 2OT. However, I still consider the Colonels the team to beat. They have a top player in the region, if not the best. Also this week, the Colonels happened to take down a talented Desales squad from the 6th region (82-76).

 

2. Conner Cougars (15-6)

At number 2, we have the Conner Cougars. After drilling BGP #10 Mason County by 19 points this week, the cougars are heavily pleading their case to replace Covcath at #1 in our region rankings. Especially after their 6 point win @CovCath earlier in January. 

 

3. Holy Cross Indians (18-6)

Coming in 11-1 their past 12 games are the Holy Cross Indians. Mr. Basketball candidate, and the states leading scorer at 35.8 PPG, Jacob Meyer put up 58 points on Walton-Verona at Hoosier Gym winning 98-81. They are on a large streak right now, but I am unable to rank them any higher due to their lack of competition with the top 2 teams in the 9th. 

 

4. Newport Wildcats (18-6)

Staying at #4 this week is the Newport Wildcats. After drilling a weak Bellevue team earlier in the week, they managed to knock off a very solid Harlan County team by 15 points in the Ed Stepp Classic. 

 

5. Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts (14-6)

Moving up to #5 this week is the Juggernauts! This week they topped the SK Pioneers by 12, the St, Henry Crusaders by 8, and the Oldham County Colonels by 13. These are 3 great wins by the Juggs this week, and bumps them above highlands. They really seem to be figuring things out at the right time! 

 

6. Highlands Bluebirds (20-6)

The sharpshooting birds moved down 1 spot this week after facing a weaker schedule, and picking up a couple of easy wins this week with Bellevue and Ryle. However, they are a team to watch come postseason time. 

 

7. Cooper Jaguars (12-10)

The Jags did not play any games this week, and stay sitting at #7. Their next game will be a big one as far as rankings go when they play the Newport Wildcats 2/9, this thursday. 

 

8. St. Henry Crusaders (11-10)

The Cru remains at #8 after this week of games after they competed with the up and coming Juggs. They defeated Holmes 80-48, and lost to Lloyd 56-64. 

 

9. Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds (10-13) 

Although they lost 2 games to end the week to Bethlehem and Central Hardin, I am still raising their ranking to #9, surpassing Beechwood. This is due to their H2H win against Beechwood on Tuesday this past week (71-61).

 

10. Beechwood Tigers (9-15)

The Tigers struggled this week after losing by 10 to NCC, and Holy Cross by 27. However, their next game against ¨The Cru¨ on 2/7 could easily change their trend in the rankings. But, they still drop 1 spot to #10 this week.

 

11. Ryle Raiders (8-12)

Went 0-2 against 2 solid teams this week in Highlands, and 8th region Grant County. 

 

12. Dixie Heights Colonels (6-14)

Defeated Ludlow by 20 this week. 

 

13. Ludlow Panthers (16-9)

Ludlow Senior Jaxon Rice averaging 30.2 PPG this year. 

 

14. Boone County Rebels (3-17)

18 point win over Williamstown this week. 

 

15. Bellevue Tigers (9-13)

 

16. Heritage Academy Eagles (17-9)

 

17. Villa Madonna Vikings (7-17)

 

18. Holmes Bulldogs (1-19)

 

19. Dayton Green Devils (9-16)

 

20. Covington Latin Trojans (0-16)

 

Just The Beginning…

I wouldn’t say Ryle is bad, the rest of the 9th above them is just that good.

I need to pay more attention to the 9th.
