January 12, 200719 yr That would be a topic of a great discussion thread. How dangerous is that? Wasn't part of the reason why Japan attacked us in WWII was the fear of not enough resources? How will that drive up the prices here? Is China becoming such a dominant world financial power a bigger threat than Iran/Korea with nuclear weapons? If you ask me (not that anyone is) China is the biggest threat to world peace and stability in the coming decade. Not only are they expanding their use of resources at an alarming rate, they are completely irresponsible in their use (and abuse) of those resources, i. e. pollution, waste, and hazardous handling practices.
January 12, 200719 yr In the early 70's, the hippies would have told you they could all fit in a Volkswagon beetle. I saw about 12 people fit into a Volkswagon once. Then they all got out and hit each other with pies and seltzer.
January 13, 200719 yr Tell me about it! I had to dump a bunch of Conoco Philips the other day...after taking a nice beating, that is. :irked: Should have bought Exxon. I have owned it for over 12 yrs and its done VERY WELL! It always makes money.

Totally agree. At the very least China's consumption of resources should be leading us to develop alternative ones.
January 13, 200719 yr Author Like 75, I don't see a correlation between sagging crude prices, a warm winter, and higher prices at the pump. Frances It baffled me when I heard it. Thursday day on the radio, Top of the hour news. May CBS or Fox Radio. Heck all time high is around $3.30 something? Anyone? This probably has a lot to do with it: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601082&sid=aVdECq9Oper0 OPEC cutting production over 1.5 million bbls a day. SWEET!!

All time national average high price was $3.04 in early August 2006. How is it sweet that OPEC is cutting production? That'll make prices go up.
January 13, 200719 yr Author All time national average high price was $3.04 in early August 2006. How is it sweet that OPEC is cutting production? That'll make prices go up. Sorry,, that was a sarcastic sweet:thumb:. It's just getting ridiculus. We don't have a chance of decent gas prices.
January 13, 200719 yr If gas hits an all time high in Feb, I'll have a Jeep Cherokee for sale if anyone is interested. Will trade + give cash on a newer VW, if anyone wants a trade.:thumb: If I still lived in town I would just get the ole Trek out, but Im to far out in the woods for that now.
January 13, 200719 yr How is it sweet that OPEC is cutting production? That'll make prices go up. My question is WHY would they cut production? Other than to make more cash I suppose... Haven't they learned yet that if we don't need it right now, we WILL need it later...Wait, of course they know that, they just like the suspense.
January 13, 200719 yr So basically Iran and Venazuala want to continue to screw the Americans. Which they both can do and laugh about it in the process. When we will get some relief from taking over Iraq? They are a big oil player. Furthermore, the reason I believe we took it over. We have to get oil from somewhere. Iran and Venz. clearly hate us. It looks like they want to keep it about 60-65 a barrel, which is about what $2.35 a gallon during non summer months, then $3.00 during summer? Also, saving Kuwaits but has done lil to nothing for us. We know have or should have strong ties with two major players; Kuwait/Iraq & have two major enemies; Venz/Iran. They should off set each other.

Oil prices will drop severely. The problem is, convincing people to buy hybrids. Granted, as much as I love their purpose, I currently won't buy one due to performance issues. Find me one that performes well, under 30K and sign me up!

Oil and gas prices will not be solved during any current memeber of BGP's lifetime. Also, it will get a lot worse before it gets better. Once Israel or the US gets into a conflict with Iran which is going to happen, it will get worse probably $10 a gallon. The only thing OPEC or the terrorist as we should call them have proven is; gas prices are going to stay above $2.00. Americans must realize this. We have to take matter into our own hands. Buy better fuel economy guards. Lower the demand...

They have a limited inventory so their goal is to sell for the highest possible price. A barrel they sell today at $51 is a barrel they can't sell tomorrow at $71.

HHSDad... what can we do to counter this? A lot of lower-middle class Americans are suffering. Our Govt has to be thinking of something.
January 13, 200719 yr HHSDad... what can we do to counter this? A lot of lower-middle class Americans are suffering. Our Govt has to be thinking of something. As has been said by many, we need to decrease our dependence on oil. I don't see a time where we aren't somewhat dependent on oil; it goes into too many things, from plastic to medicine to jet, truck train, boat and heating fuel. But we need to find alternatives. Solar and nuclear energy, modes of transportation that don't use or use little oil products, more efficient energy usage in homes, vehicles, transmission lines and business. We also need to learn to become less of a disposable nation. We throw away resources, myself included, like we have an endless supply. We need to prepare ourselves for a little discomfort.
