2007 Clay County

Featured Replies

For the first time in Clay County football the Kids are starting to realize that Games are won in the weightroom, football is not a sport for the lazy kid, its a mans sport played by modern day warriors. It doesn't matter how much God given ability one has, if he's not willing to get in the weightroom and pump the iron, then your going to get knocked around and hurt during the season.

Also if some of the parents in Clay County would give up the dream of their 6 foot tall kid becming the next Richie Farmer and realize there are three times more college schlorships for young men in football than basketball we'd get our numbers up. In Clay county when it gets hot and Junior comes home tired from practice, Mommy and Daddy start complaining about the coach and the next thing the kids calling it quits.

Don't teach your kids to be quitters, force them to be world changers

I'd say we already have a few players off the gifted Middle school teams of a coupe years back that have had dreams of state basketball championships installed into their heads. These kids have been talked into riding the pine in basketball rather than gettingin the weightroom, getting strong and winning a state football championship.

Parents of Clay county the day of the five foot ten slow white guy dominating in basketball is over, Look at what just happened to South Laurel in the sweet sixteen.

Get behind your kids, back them, teach them to work hard for something they want, allow them to bring pride back to the community, its not a pretty thing when parents blame coaches for their childrens unwillingness to work. News flash its mom and dads fault.

Your not fooling anyone!

Realistically the chances of the small slow, emphasis on slow, white boy getting a scholarship or dominating in football seem to be as small as it is in basketball. To me the only sport that the kid you are describing can really excel at is baseball. I know weather dictates, to some degree, the play of baseball, but I think that many athletes should consider this sport more. A perfect example would be the Lewis kid. With his arm and his work ethic he might even have a chance at getting drafted, I know the chances are low but, I know unequivocally that he will never get drafted by the NFL. So to me, if the future is what these kids should be considering when choosing a sport they should be looking at baseball rather than football or basketball.

The majority of those football scholarships are taken up by 350 lbs. linemen. The slow 6 foot white boy's options are limited in football as much as in basketball. I agree baseball is the sport for these kids if they want a future at the next level. The major leagues are filled with 6 foot white guys. The majority of the players are white. What other sport can you say that about?

Any kid that's less than 6' and is "slow" can excel at many things including sports. For you to make the comment that "the only sport that the kid you are describing can really excel at is baseball" makes me wonder why you made the post. Please clarify "really excel at baseball" for me please. Please tell me why "slow", "short" white boys can excel at baseball but not other sports. Wouldn't this "slow", "short" "white kid need a tremendous arm or superior hitting skills to go along with his aforementioned attributes to "really excel at baseball? Without speed playing the outfield and stealing bases is out. If he's really slow, playing the infield is out. He better throw about 95mph or bat .900 with a HR every third at bat. Please explain. I don't think Kycat was talking NFL or MLB contracts when referring to the Clay kids.

Man, you need to talk to someone. This is 2007. No one wants to hear anything on here about black and white. This is for high school sports. Could this be a racist post?:madman:

I disagree that the major leagues are "filled" with 6' white guys. Check some rosters, filled won't describe it. A 6' white boy better do something very very special to expect a D-1 scholarship in anything, much less a MLB contract. If he's slow, he better do something very very very very very very special.

Anything is possible, but NASCAR is probably their best shot.:thumb:

I was thinking the same thing.

This is where race came into the conversation. Please read all the posts before you start calling people racists. Thank you.

By no means am I a racist individual. I was merely commenting on the remarks of kycat I believe that these statistics would back up my comment about better opportunities for whites in baseball. As for the discussion about being slow, and 6 foot…I really don’t think it matters what race you are, if you are this type of person you are more than likely not going to play after high school. So everything aside if you are in high school and wanting to choose a sport why not choose the one that is the most fun and if that is football then good if that is basketball then good, but if you are looking to further your career and go to the next level at something I say baseball is your sport. Here are some stats to back up my claims…

MLB

78% US-born

64% white

10% black

4% latino

22% foreign born

15.15% Latin America

2% Asian

.85% Japanese

NFL

66% of all NFL players are black. *note

31.5% are white

NBA

73% Black

17% White

10% International

Before you can back up your comment you will have to post the height and speed of each of those players. I think you and Dex both stated short "6'" and slow white guys in your posts. The pictures only tell the color of their skin.

How many players play in the NFL VS MLB or the NBA? Which pro sport has the most players? I don't claim to know, I'm just wondering.

Can we please get back to Clay Co Football.

This is a forum for high school football, I agree. Let it go!!!

Who'll be the Best teams in the District/Region that Clay Co will face this season, and who do you guys think will be the toughest game for Clay this season?

Who'll get the carries for Clay Co. when the decide to keep the ball on the ground?

Are the Kids who had injuries Nolan, Ben Jackson, Nate Dezarn, Charlie rawlings, Earl Phillips all beack and ready to go come fall 2007?
