9th Region Tournament Draw

Featured Replies

Covington Catholic vs Conner

Dixie Heights vs Newport Central Catholic

Ryle vs Beechwood

Highlands vs St. Henry

Oh man... @kyag is going to be itching to call for the first round "mini-upset" for his Cougars.

Dixie gets the toughest runner-up, in my opinion, which is super unfortunate for NewCath who would have had a much better chance of a win vs CovCath (or probably Ryle due to match-ups, Ryle won't blow you away with a barrage of goals).

The bottom two games are one-way traffic.

IF (big IF, I don't want KYAG to yell at me) it is CovCath vs Dixie, a rematch of last year's 9th Region Championship, that will be an emotional game between two teams with a lot of familiarity, and plenty of bad blood.  CovCath hosting has to give them a VERY slight boost, but Dixie will be SUPER motivated to pay the Blue Colonels back for last year's title game at Boone County.

Ryle vs Highlands will be a classic strength vs strength match-up of Highlands' high-flying attack versus the best goalie in the area (maybe the state) and perhaps the best CB in the area as well.  Love this match-up, and I favor Ryle only slighly, but I do think Ryle advances to the finals.

Ryle vs Dixie for the 9th Region Championship, a bunch of great story-lines, two really good coaching staffs, tons of high-level players....and a somewhat shocking Ryle win (to many) 2-1.

Let's get it started!!!

This appears to be a pretty "fair" draw. I agree with The double deuce, I would have liked to see Cov Cath play NCC as I see them as the 4 & 5 in the Region.

I will play "Rock Chalk" in the first round with all district winners advancing. From there, my guess is a Dixie v Highlands final game with the Birds hoisting the Regional trophy.

Now to flip a few coins to see which game I attend...

I should have posted my prediction bracket...I did have Cov Cath vs Conner in mine.  I think this is the Cougars best chance for the upset.  Cov Cath has scored 17 goals in their district tournament, but the Conner defense can be tough and has only given up 19 goals for the season.  Maybe Cov Cath overlooks the Cougars eyeing the Dixie rematch to give payback for the 2-1 defeat on 9/20 at the hand of the "Red Colonels".  Conner with the upset!

Dixie in my opinion gets the best of NCC. Dixie just beat them 2-1 and I think playing at Dixie gives them all the advantage they need, if they really need one.

I don't see Ryle having issues with Beechwood, but last year Ryle had to forfeit that game (win) to Beechwood due to a self-reported ineligible player.  The series before last year Ryle has scored 27 goals and given up 2.  Maybe another ineligible player is declared?

Highlands vs St. Henry, going with Highlands.  Highlands beat them 6-1 early in the year and reports from Highlands seem to be leaning towards they are playing better now than they were then.

So, I'm going Conner/Dixie with unfortunately Dixie advancing.  I still think my Cougars are about 2 years away, the freshman and sophomores need just a little more time to develop physically.

Ryle vs Highlands with Ryle getting the win.  They tied earlier in the year, but Ryle is playing really good right now.

That brings us to Dixie vs Ryle and I'm going with Dixie.  They have the talent and I think they are focused on completing the task this year.

Point of clarification:

Do you have above the Beechwood and St. Henry teams flip flopped?  Have you seen a bracket published yet?

I ask b/c Beechwood Boys soccer tweeted that they are the ones that play Highlands on Tue at Tower Park.

So I wonder if it is Highlands v Beechwood and the other game is Ryle v St. Henry.

I might...my source had it the way I posted, but Beechwood does have posted they are going to Tower Park to take on your Bluebirds.

So far, predictions for the result in the finals of the 9th Region Tourney:

*  Me:  Ryle over Dixie

* @2 much info :  Highlands over Dixie

*  @kyag :  Dixie over Ryle

Let's hear 'em!

Surprised Thu 10/13 8pm game isn't getting moved to Morsher Field, just to stick it to the Birds again!

Plus it might get NCC to get turf like it did for St Henry.

I don't think there is a prettier setting for soccer in NKY (combined with field surface quality), no disrespect to Tower Park and the tanks on the hill, than CovCath at night.  You won't have any issues from the pitch this year, Frank!  ?

The ONLY issue with Cov Cath I see, which does NOT impact the Thu, 8pm game is the setting sun.  Whoever is playing in the 5:30pm game better NOT take the coin flip lightly.  You DO NOT want to be defending the East goal while the sun is setting.

My 2 cents!

Thank goodness the Birds (if they win on Tue) won't have that issue at 8pm.

I'll give it a go.

Semi final:  Dixie -vs- Cov Cath    Cov Cath wins 3-2

Semi final:  Ryle -vs- Highlands    Highlands wins 5-3

Final:  Cov Cath -vs- Highlands (at CCH)  Cov Cath wins 2-1 late in the second half

Will these games be streamed anywhere? I don't think I can bring myself to make it over to Park Hills two nights in a row! ?
