Haha.......well, you know, they could have just given me "extra service pay."

BTW.....I'll third the notion on Jim Roark.

I think it takes a while for JR High/Middle school coaches to make the jump from being a jr high head coach to being a high school head coach. What I mean by that is Jr High coaches need to be assistant varsity coaches for a few years and understand the change and the hard hours that is put in being a varstiy coach especially a head coach. Then with a few years under their belt, move up to the big job. Not saying that it has never been done with success because I don't know but I guess if anyone that could of done it, it would have been Jim Roark.

Jim is still a very respected figure in this area, he always seems to have a "class" about him that is hard to find these days, so I duly say go Purple Devils.

And C-woodbp. not every thing that is written on this site is a personal attack. MY POINT WAS THAT IT DOESEN'T MATTER HOW MANY MIDDLE SCHOOL TROPHIES ARE IN THE CASE COACHING AT THE NEXT LEVEL IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT NOT IMPOSSIBLE!

I definitely did not take anything personal. I was just going to fill you in on his coaching experiences, if it was in reference to my post. :thumb:

I have a friend who coaches at Cawood that said that they have over 50 kids in the weight room right now, that is not including basketball and 8th graders. If that is the case, Cawood has not seen those numbers since the early 90's.

well a lot of times the numbers that are in the weightroom can be as exaggerated as the starting tackles powerclean weight but if this is true

maybe Cawood can redeem themselves a little next year.

I think that number has been stretched a little. They didn't have fifty kids on their team last season, and lost some seniors. I doubt the number is fifty.

I talked to coach Perry yesterday and he said they were having right at 50 in the weightroom. He said this did not include many of the 8th graders and did not include those playing basketball and baseball. He was very impressed with the work ethic in the weightroom.

that is great then, seems as if the players are excited about a change.

Now is when alot of games are won so things are looking up for the sons of troy.

Silentbob, since you obviously know Coach Perry maybe you can give us a little more insight on the new look trojans. With 50 in the weightroom i can only assume all those young kids have dealt positively with the change?

who is looking good and what are some of the weight and times being turned in by those 50. Also, he mentioned in the paper he was going to run the tripple offensively. After seeing what he has is he still going with that?

I expect him to still run his 3-4 he got from Danville, true? Who will make up his Staff- any new faces or is it going to be the ones left over from last year.

Has he made any comments good or bad about the administration or is everything smooth so far.

He only goes to a 3-4 look if he is going up against a team like Williamsburg in the past who throws the ball 50+ times a game. He likes to stay in a 5-2 look as much as possible. He also has a 4-3 package where he drops the weak side end off to a LB. The only time he really uses this is against teams that are very balanced and like to run I-formation football.

As far as his triple option offense it concerned, I look for him to run more of a belly option type offense, mostly out of the I and split-backs, like he and his brother did when they were at Garrard County. It isn't going to be the Air Force Academy wish/flex bone triple option offense that I think a lot of people are expecting. Overall though, I look for him to adjust his system according to the types of players he has on the offensive side of the ball.

I believe coach Perry told me that Cawood ended the year with 30 players last yr. He seems to believe there is a realistic chance they could have 50 out before it is said and done. As far as his assistants, i don't know alot about who he will have helping him.

I believe he will still run alot of triple option.

You'll probobly see around 70 percent of triple option offensively. Defensively, Cawood will need alot of work in the secondary to play this style of defense; in Coach Perry's defense they will have a tons of more responsibility placed on them, from blitzing to playing alot more man coverage.

so you are saying Harlan can play this style of defense but Cawood can't? Also i do not believe he does alot of man coverage.
