Yellow Jackets Swarm Lexington To Test Bulldogs' Bite

Table Setter: Dunbar's stock received a bump after nearly taking down Madison Central last week. Even in defeat, the Bulldogs continued to restore some of the shine to the Paul Laurence Dunbar name in hopes of climbing back to the top of Lexington football. They went down swinging against the Indians, but another opportunity to grab a higher rung on the ladder awaits this week as they host Woodford County. 

The Yellow Jackets have rolled through two overmatched opponents, but may meet some resistance this week. Then again, we're only a year removed from Dunbar being led by the leash to the "wood"- shed in Versailles. WOFO demolished the Bulldogs last season in a game that was out of reach by halftime. The Jackets will again look to impose their might on the opposition, but this year's edition of PLD might just push back.

This is an interesting one that will tell a lot about both programs, I think? Dunbar has been really really bad for a while now. Beating the teams they should beat and getting curb stomped by better programs. Wofo has played a very soft regular season schedule for a while now which has helped them get wins under their belt. Their run in the postseason was impressive but losing Geiler and Patterson is a big deal. I don't know what to make of Dunbar's near upset of MC last week. With MC missing 4 starters which included Hensley and Kenyatta it's hard to tell. This game will give us a lot of insight as to where both programs stand.

Wofo  easy. 42-21. Dunbar secondary is suspect, and I don't see their trenches match the Wofo frontlines either.

Dunbar goes 80 yards in 3:30 to take an early 7-0 lead. Hurry up offense gave Woodford tons of trouble on that drive. 

Woodford goes right down the field themselves, scoring on a 23 yard run. Yellowjackets offensive line dominated that series. Kick was blocked, 7-6 Dunbar halfway through first quarter. 

Woodford quarterback runs one in from about 30 yards out. Two-point conversion is good. Woodford 14-7, 9:12 left in second quarter.  

Dunbar drives inside the five but was picked off in the end zone. Still 14-7 Woodford, mid second quarter.

Woodford short touchdown pass. Yellowjackets lead 21-7, three minutes left in the half. 

Score is closer than reality. Woodford has dominated the first half. 

Woodford missed a long field goal at the buzzer. Woodford up 21-7 at halftime. 

Woodford runs back the second half opening kickoff. 28-7 and it’s all but academic. 

Dunbar three-and-out, Woodford scores again. Woodford 36-7, still eight minutes to go in the third quarter. I’m going to stick around but I’m done with updates.
