St. Xavier vs. Central Hardin (KHSAA State Tournament Quarterfinal)

Featured Replies

St. X (31-10) looked the part of a state championship favorite in the first round. They played small ball, manufactured runs, pitched, and played a clean game in the field. Central Hardin (29-9) got a commanding pitching performance in its first round win. It may take another one to bounce the Tigers. These two met less than a month ago, with X claiming an 8-5 victory.

Game time is this evening at 5:00pm.

Nothing I’ve seen from round one changes my opinion that St. Xavier will be the state champion.

Does anyone have the link to live scoring for the game?

Pitching matchup:

Jake Gregor (X) 3-3 with a 3.07 ERA in 45.2 innings pitched

vs.

Caden Alvey (CH) 6-3 with a 2.33 ERA in 39 innings pitched

X is up 2 to 0 in the first.

The Tigers are at it again early, taking advantage of CH's mistakes and playing small ball to push across a pair of runs in the 1st.

2-0 X

A trio of triples adds three more runs to the Tigers' tally. Cooper Smith, Jack Bennett, and Jake Gregor - helping his own cause - recorded three straight three baggers.

It's 5-0 St. X moving to the bottom of the 2nd.

John Paul Jardina doubles in another run. X is in complete control, up 6-0 entering the bottom of the 3rd.

CH has its best opportunity to make this a game. The bases are loaded with two outs.

X snuffs out the threat with a ground ball out to end the inning. They're headed to the 4th.

Jack Thompson drives in two to increase X's lead to 8-0. The inning isn't over. Bases are now loaded with two outs.

CH gets out of the inning without further damage, but an eight run hole against the Tigers seems insurmountable. On to the bottom of the 4th.

X is threatening the mercy rule threshold with a 9-0 lead and two runners still on base with no outs.

As I'm typing, X singles in another run, making it 10-0.

Bases are juiced, still no one out.

X tallies 5 runs in the inning to make it 13-0. This one should be over soon. Let's go to the bottom of the 5th.
