Ever since their state championship team with Haddix and company, Breathitt has been a couple notches below Russell and Belfry, with both the Devils and Pirates returning nearly as much talent if not more, then what will suddenly make them a state title contender over these teams and newly added Louisville Central, Paducah Tilghman, and Somerset?

 

I do believe things are back on the upswing in Jackson, but they still won't quite be to that State power level yet.

State Power Level? Come on now, Breathitt will always be and powerhouse. Everyone has their down years in smaller calsses. Russell and Belfry too. Breathitt has been really young over the past few years, but they were very conpetive. Last year they wasnt supposed to win 5 games but guess what they won 8 games. Breathitt will always be in the mix as long as Coach Holcomb and Chapman is there.

I agree.....to many people across the state a 8 win season is magical lol....I think Breathitt's program has the ability to build great leaders and that contributes to the success they have.....Last year Breathitt had only 4 seniors, and in many people's minds should have been in the Regional Championship game...At the begining people thought 5 wins.....At the end Breathitt was ranked #4 in the state of Kentucky(2A)......Says alot about how much that young team grew. Just imagine what they will be able to do this year...I was one of those 4 seniors, and I honestly believe they will be on the carpet.....

As someone who loves the game of Football and of course The Bobcats ,and wants them to win everytime they take the field and we as Fans and game watchers of mountian football have come to expect that from a Mike Holcomb coach team,not many games can anyone say they left the Mike Holcomb stadium when the team on field didnt give it all they had,so yes, this year seems to be a year(for Bobcats) with all pieces in place and i do think they have a ligt shot at being in L'ville,and if russell and belfrey makes it they will know they have to go through BOBCAT COUNTRY......and we all know this so GO Bobcats.......

I think you have a reasonable outlook. I haven't heard much about this year's Bobcat squad as far as how they're progressing, etc...so based on what I do know...how young they were last year and overachieved, how little they lost and how young they still are, I think it's correct to put them a notch below some of those teams in the pre-season. They still have to prove they can get to and compete at that level. I certainly think it's possible, but I'll take the wait and see approach for now. I think Breathitt County is likely still a year away, but I could be wrong. I think next year and the year after could be bigger seasons for the Bobcats.

Than you.. my question could very easily be construed to be sarcastic but I was just genuinely asking a question. If there is one thing I know about Breathitt football is that EVERY year they will be well coached and the optimal performance for the talent level will be achieved. It just seems that in the past four or five years the talent hasn't been there (especially when you compare it to the years of Haddix, Moore, Waylon Chapman, etc) but I can very easily see it swinging in the next few years.

 

I just don't personally see thi sparticular Breathitt team making up the ground between them and the top teams in the class that quickly.

Breathitt will be a serious contender in 3A next season. With a talented senior quarterback (Colby Fugate) leading the offense they will be poised to make a big run deep into the playoffs. Chris Jackson plays hard on both sides of the ball and will make an impact. Channing Fugate will try and fill the big shoes of Beckham Herald, on both sides of the ball. If they can put together a solid line, this could be one of those special seasons for the Bobcats. Good luck next season!!!

Colby has improved a lot, but be realistic.

^I agree as well. Colby is very talented and could make a great college quarterback but not at the high D-1 level, and I'm not trying to knock the kid at all.

I agree..I wish the kid all the luck in the world but being a D-1 quarterback takes something special.

Breathitt took a huge lose over the summer. Their one of their starting linebackers, Ben Allex, has decided to stop playing. Ben was a stand-out last year as a freshman. Ben will be missed this season. Its to bad for the bobcats, they have some shoes to fill with the lose of this kid, he was a great player.

Do what? Were you in attendance at Breathitt's playoff game against Leslie Co. last year? I mean, Leslie had a descent defense, and pretty much shut him down all except the one bomb he hit'em up for. So what do you think will happen to him when he's sees Florida on the other side? His biggest asset was the great line they had last year, and that inside running play behind the big Allen kid. They better find some linemen or this will not be the banner year they're expecting over there.

Why has Ben Allex desided not to play this year? I thought he had good year last year.

Yeah, he has told me that he is just bored of it. I thinik the pressure of playing on a varsity team messed with his mind somewhat. He is physically ready to play on the varsity level but he need to be more mentally stronger. I sure hope he plays he will be able to pick from a ton of colleges if he decides to play agian. The coachs and players have been talking to him about every day now wanting him to come back. I for one hope he does.
