This seems to be a running trend at Shelby County with athletic hires here recently.  You look at baseball hires lately, all little league/travel ball coaches that coached the Principals kids.

As a former Shelby resident, who had family that were a part of the Shelby County football program, I've seen from a far how great the Shelby County program has been in the past, and how great of job Todd Shipley did there for many years with not as much talent as what is had across town at Collins High School.

There were many coaches that put in for this job.  I know that some alumni players who are now coaches at other high schools interviewed.  There were also coaches that are or were head coaches at the high school level that also interviewed.  I have heard the same that many are not happy with the hire, especially knowing who some of the other candidates were.

From Shelby Co born and raised. My parents graduated from Shelby. I hate reading the above. Sports were always a big thing for the County. Baseball, football, basketball, and just about any sport there was a pride to play at a high level. 
 

I would be curious to know who all applied for the position. Especially former players to see if any of my former teammates applied. I hope the hire goes well. If for some reason it doesn’t hopefully it doesn’t damage/setback the program too much.

Coach Ship was booted after 20+ years only to hire a coach with no HS HC experience that also is not from Shelby or the area? Interesting…

I hope Coach Harris has the answers to get the program back on the right track or at least be able to compete with that team across town. Hasn’t been that way for some time.

Ashton Bailey, current coach at Lafayette High School and alumni of Shelby County : Interviewed 

Brock Roberts, current assistant coach at Collins, former head coach of Eminence High School : Interviewed

Matt Axline, current assistant coach and alumni at Shelby County High School : not interviewed

Coach from South Oldham : Interviewed

Coach from Western Hills : Interviewed

 

Seems like they passed over a lot of good quality coaches with HS experience for someone new.....very questionable hire imo.

These are many of the same names I was told about. 
 

Have heard many current players are not happy with the hire either. Many were upset Shipley was pushed out and now not happy he’s being replaced by someone with little experience.

I never heard really why they wanted a change. Was someone not a fan of gun option? I don’t remember if they ran some gun triple but they definitely ran gun option stuff. A little bit of the old Confusion defense too.
