After a one year hiatus, [a series that had been played over 76 consecutive seasons (1944/45 - 2019/20)] the rivalry is renewed. CCH edges ahead of NCC in all-time wins 70-69.

Any guesses as to how long it might take for the Breds to ever regain the lead in this series? Might be a while.

Cov Cath has probably won the last 8 or 9 games. That might be a good indication that NCC has held the series lead for a long time.

Not to draw the thread too far away from this game, I may start a separate one on the history between the two teams. Brief research notes ~

NCC had led the series from the mid 1940's until CCH tied it up in 2019. The Thoroughbreds held a 62-45 edge before the "KHSAA Scoreboard" era (see screenshot below).

Most of New Cath's 17 game win advantage occurred from the late '40's to early '60's. They absolutely dominated during the '50's, with numerous 20-30 point wins over the Colonels when the teams played home/away every season.

The two were fairly even during the Hils-Maile-Schneider-Tieman coaching regimes at Cov Cath. The claw back to taking the series lead really began when Coach Listerman (13-2) took the reigns, followed by Coach Ruthsatz (10-3).

From 1944/45 to 2019/20 the series was for Cov Cath the longest consecutive one scheduled with another school.

Great post. My Dad and nephews went to Cov Cath. My boys are NCC men. A little Catholic rivalry is good for the soul. We Believe!
