I would call this a decent way to start the season.

Hammond had 27.

Another big win for the 8th Region tonight.   Coupled with Walton-Verona's stunner over Highlands, the 32nd district of the 8th Region had quite a night in NKY.

Kudos to Coach Utter; his team has been hammered by some setbacks (a key injury, surgery to a starter, and a key transfer) that threatened to make the start of the season a real challenge.

Looks like the Braves are up to the challenge!

Hammond is not a super skilled perimeter player, but, man can he rebound!  He found some boards tonight that most HS players can’t get to.  Very impressed with his board game.  He is also very good in / near the paint, 8-10 feet.  His defense is good, and his handles are good for a PF / SF.  Maybe he just didn’t show it tonight, but, if he can add a consistent perimeter shot, he will be complete.  Job well done tonight.  

It was a a hard fought game.  Beechwood is a scrappy team.  Their press and match up zone had Grant County struggling on offense all night.

Keep in mind Grant is starting at point a nice young player who I think will do well for them - but he was the #3 PG, I believe, before a transfer and an unfortunate season-ending injury knocked out the starter and the backup.

And the third-leading scorer from last year just came back from surgery....not sure if he (Ziegler) played tonight or not...

Makes this win all the more impressive, in my book, because Beechwood is solid.
